Niki died peacefully in my arms today @ 3:10 pm PST. I came home from work at 4am this morning, and he was having a very difficult time breathing. His condition did not improve. It was time for Niki to go home. Thank you for you kind thoughts and emotional support.

Goodbye my friend:cry:

Niki McBee will forever be the mascot of Subsim, there's no doubt about it. My sincere thoughts go out to you in this difficult time, really they do. I wont forget him and the smiles he brought me and everyone here, and will continue to do.

And I hope he has a fun time up there chasing crabs with wings.

He's free. And that is good. The sadness you feel - is an issue of your ego wanting to possess: things, people, pets, and it has nothing to do with what Niki was. Understand that, and your pain will ease: it is not about him, it is about you. Don't think I am heartless. I am not. After having dealt with dying people and really suffering, traumatized people in the past, I just don't like to tell phrases, in the face of death they all mean nothing, and instead I tell you something of real value to help. The only lasting cures to all of life's sufferings and miseries are time, and understanding yourself.

BTW, we lost three dogs when I still lived with my parents, so I know how it's feeling (the pack of hunting dogs my grandfather had not counted). We come. We stay a while, we go. So it is, and it is neither good nor bad. But in the end, nothing has happened, nothing has moved.

Don't look down - look up!

very sorry for your loss. But he is at peace now.

He died in the arms of the one he was devoted to and entrusted to take care of him.

You acted with mercy and love. Never forget his love for you, but don't dwell on the loss. Love is forever.

Goodbye little one. Pet bereavement is painful. However, you can derive some solace from the fact that you made him one world-famous Boston Terrier.

Wee doggie is free now. It's always sad, but nature will take its course...

I wonder if Niki is happy now that he will not be made to wear T-shirts and sailor caps, though he was cute as the dickens in them (though definitely not happy, lol).

Have a good one, mate, and take care. :yep:

I was very sorry to hear about this. Take comfort in the fact that while he was alive, he had a great life. That is obvious. He looked like a very happy and well cared for dog. You took care of him like people everywhere should take care of their animals.

It's not easy to go through this. These animals become members of your family. Unfortunately, our little critters don't last as long as we do. 2 Springs ago, we had to put down my wife's 24 year old cat. A cat she got as a little girl. A real old, longtime friend if you will. It hurt to do it, so I understand how it is. But just remember the good times you had with Niki McBee, and take comfort that you gave Niki the best life a dog could have. I can tell you did.

The Power of the Dog
by
Rudyard Kipling

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie--
Perfect passsion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart to a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find--it's your own affair--
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-term loan is as bad as a long--
So why in--Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

RIP Niki McBee
