Hi:
Just in 10th patrol with the small type IIA from the 1th Flotilla.I like this boat, but one of his main limitations was is extreme short range and of course fuel limit. With the type IIB(U-7 to U-24 and U-120,U-121), things are better, the type had a range of 3100 nm compared with the 1600nm of the type IIA.
Actually the serie IIA had included only 6 U-boots, U-1 to U-6. SH-3 and SH3 Commander included "Pseudos" IIB but notes this boots as IIA.Changes are possible in the dates in the Cfg(U-Boots numbers, availability,Flotillas, etc). But the main point, the specifications of a real IIB with this more big fuel bunkers...
There are a way to utilise(Or activate)the IIB with SH-3 with or without GWX 2.0?

You could edit the files for the IIA or IID to match the specifications for the IIB and even edit the model to look like a IIB or steal the AI version and adapt it, but you would need to replace one of the player subs because SH3 does not allow adding extra u-boats to the game.
If you succeed in creating a IIB, I suppose your best bet is to replace the IIA since it's the one you like least and would not interfere with upgrading to other u-boats later in the war.
I'm not sure if anyone has ever bothered to so much modding with the type II but there is a slim possibility someone may have already created a IIB mod. Try doing a forum search for it, if it exists.

There is an AI Type IIB in GWX. Perhaps it could be swapped for the IIA. I agree, the IIA is the best option for being dumped, since, as Danelov pointed out, there were only six of them. The chance of any real kaleun getting one was much smaller than for a IIB. Also, the u-boat numbers for Flotilla Weddigen in SH3 Commander are all IIB numbers.

It makes you wonder, SS.
You'd think that some of these mainstream companies would do more than interview a few elderly veterans and read Jane's Weekly when making a period sim like SH3.
Their choices for some of the player u-boats do seem a bit odd when you look at historical deployments for frontflotilles.
I suppose we shouldn't really complain. Following historical facts would mean any player's chances of commanding a XXI in 1945 would be remote, at best.
Sometimes you have to choose gameplay value over history when you're trying to reach a broader market than hardcore sim nuts.

Back when I played role-playing games, we would sometimes have someone ask how realistic it was to chase dragons and find treasures. I always replied "I wouldn't want this to be realistic. If it was realistic we would all spend our time playing peasants whose biggest worry was whether the family had enough food."
