Good Lord willin' and the crick don't rise, I'm looking forward to an upgrade come the first of the month. I'm considering getting an EVGA GeForce 8600GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 card to go with the rest of the gear and was wondering if anyone had played the game with this card or another flavor of 8600GT gpu and what, if any, problems they might have had in relation to SH4.

Thanks in advance:up:

In all honesty , i would scrimp on other stuff and get at least an 8800 series .

I've had no problems - I run SH4 on both an XFX 8600GTS on my desktop (runs very well), and a mobile 8600M GS (runs decently, but it's the laptop's processor that slows it down, not the card). They're good cards - although I think at this point in time, I'd indeed follow advice to get an 8800. A year ago it was definitely a great deal for a card, but I believe 8800s are now in a very affordable price range for much better performance.

What he said about the 8600  Try finding an 8800 at a store. Good luck. :damn: I was eyeing an additional HD, the "green" western (can't remember the rest of the company's name) 500GB. BB has them priced at just shy of a buck and a half......I'm stumped.

Thanks for the input guys. The budget's already being strained as it is (and this is one of those "do it now or forever forget about it" things:rotfl: ) Might be able to stretch it to an 8800GS 384MB without having to do without any food.

I've got an 8600M GT in my Macbook. Runs things fairly well all things considered. Slows down a tad once in a while requiring a tweak of the settings every now and then but nothing too onerous.

For what it's worth, I'm running an 8600GTS 256MB at the current moment. Handles SH4 v1.5 fine. Performance seemed to increase a bit on 1.5 over 1.4, I might add though.

Problems:
1. Every so often (once out of every fourty program starts), I'll get an odd issue where the ocean flashes black, repeatedly. There does not appear to be a trigger, and it may not be video card related.

2. Ummm.... yeah, #1 is the only I can think of at the current moment. I'll holler if I remember anything else.

I'm running Vista, too, if that's of any import to you.

I'm running one right now and upgraded from a 7600GT. It's a lot bigger upgrade than most of the review sites would have you believe

My laptop has an 8600GS. I've had no problems, but I'm a bit unhappy with performance, especially compared to my 8800GTS 320mb equipped desktop. So I'd suggest paying a little extra and get an 8800GTS or GT.

With my GTS, SH4 runs beautifully in 1680x1050, everything totally maxed, 2xAA.

I am running dual 8600gts 256mb in SLI but I have also run the game with just one of those installed. Im quite happy with it in either configuration.

Only problem Ive had was the display driver stopped responding issue which seems to be a problem with nvidia cards in general on vista machines. I think I may have finally solved it though.

I have an XFX 8600GT (512MB) and run this game very well. I am running with 16x AA and all the graphics options checked. I also use Trigger Maru Overhauled which uses ROW. I just posted some screenshots from an encounter last night in the screenshot thread.

Thanks again for all the input, y'all. Decisions, decisions:) Looking more like the extra $20 for the 8800GS would be worth it, but I wouldn't be shooting myself too badly in the foot with the 8600GT either. Being on a tight budget stinks:damn:

Guess I should have stated that I was running XP also, but good to know that Vista isn't a problem for either (other than Vista's own "little" problems).

Also, I wouldn't be so particular about getting a 512mb card. Mine is a 256mb and runs the game just fine. At least SH4 will not need 512mb, and I'm skeptical that any game out now really needs it either. So between a faster 256 or 384mb card and a 512mb 8600, I'd choose the faster card with less RAM any day. As long as your main RAM is good, it'll handle everything you need.

The only problem with an 8600 GT that I have seen is that it does not like Battlefield 2142 " has extremly low framrate "... I dont have the 8600 but my friend does and ever since he got it he can't play it.. I dont know if its a issue with the card or the 8600 series. but other wise SH4 and SH3 play great.

my current card is an EVGA 9600gt 512mb, its a great card. I would say its inbetween a 8600 and a high end 8800, preformance wise

Got XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition (now even two :D) and works great. :) Shouldn't be a problem on 8600 too.
