Not sure if this is a SH4 or the add-on but was on Patrol off Japan and had enemy warship sighting. I had outside views on and so a long way off in the dark moonless night something was glowing and as I got closer I couldn't believe what I saw. it was a four masted sailing ship glowing in the dark and under full sail. Pretty funny stuff. I got a screen capture of and will post later. The Flying Dutchman live!

It's the Flying Dutchman. Someone posted a video of the encounter a few months ago. I think the Dutchman even fired off a volley of its cannons.

There are two different textures for the Type IX. Navigate to the /data/submarine/nss_Uboat9 folder, and look for the DDS files with the T01 and T02 line in them. The game only uses the first one, but you can always rename the second one so that it shows up in-game. The only drawback to this is the Tarnmatte anti-sonar coating won't show up when it's fitted.

Possibly another easter egg or personal remark from the artist?

In the Textures/Tnormal/Tex, there's a file called Captainroom_captainslog and in it, there's one blank page, with "In the sumer, we go to make history" written on it. I tried looking for it ingame, both US & German offices, but didnt find it. :hmm:

You'll see it very briefly when opening up the captain's log in either office.

Aye, I knew it was somewhere in the logbook, but never got a glimpse of it. But, I claim this as an easter egg! Now, give me my cookie! :stare:

i have never really read much or looked into but what is thhis whole Easter Egg thing :-?

Sailor Steve

An easter egg in this context is something placed into the game by its makers that shouldn't be there. In SH3 there was a submarine under construction in the home ports, and underneath it were a couple of equipment crates with the logo of the band U-2 on them. In SH4 there are...well, that's what this thread is about.

You find them in almost every game, and it's a game in itself just to spot them and point them out to other players.

If you have a DVD of Star Wars Episode II (I think it is), when the ships are descending to the planet for the big battle if you freeze-frame it, through the window of one of the ships you can see the pilot is Homer Simpson. That's an easter egg.

FIREWALL

That they didn't put Homer Simpsons name in the crew list of SH4 is unforgivable. :p :yep: :rotfl: :arrgh!:

Way necro, but this is a sticky. ;) Anyway, that's talking about Herr Oesten, the guy they got to help design SH III. You can see some of the videos with him here:

Stock game puts you down there by default... Possibly a subliminal message?

"You can only ride on this sub if you are this tall!".

Thankfully most of the major mods place you at eye level. :rotfl:

To me the Easter Egg is the included U-Boat Missions. At least that's what it says on the box. What missions? You would think UBI could come up with a few missions. Its more like they added on SH III career mode. Its a shame that we have to depend on others or fabricate our own missions. Do you never consider there would be no game to mod if Ubisoft hadn't created and developed then released the game in the first place. :hmm:

Have any of you met MacArthur yet...?

I still haven't been to New York to see the Statue of Liberty yet..anyone got SS's. The Ice Shelf is pretty cool. The artic forest...not really a egg, but the ice covered tree's OK. Still haven't found the autumn forest. I assume it's tree's changing colors. Course the Golden Gate Bridge is cool.
Seen the Dolphins once in SH4, but I think it's common in 3.

Hello. About easter eggs, the first time that was playing the SH 4, i was sailing with my Balao class along the surroundings of the Philippines when I found a sign in the radar. On having approached to see what it was, I saw a galleon of the 18th century!! Approaching more I could see to the nose of a transparent blue, with his crew, apparels, cannons... The curious thing is that I have not returned to see nevermore, and it that I have installed the game several times, and I it have finished several times also. Can someone say to me if it has seen it also? Greetings from Zaragoza, Spain.:arrgh!:

Spend some time in the Luzon Straits in mid 42'. It will show as a warship - but the greenish glow gives it away at a fairly good distance.

I'm new SH4 player and I'm coming from playing Dangerous Water RA mod, thus I'm still learning where all the button, knob, valve in this game.

Is this vessel (picture bellow) also another easter eggs? I've encounter this vessel in grid QC 718. All the shell I've shot went straight trough, the vessel do keep firing her starboard canons thus I approached her from the port

Pretty sure that they were referring to
Friedrich Guggenberger. Not only was he a U-Boat captain and a twice escaped POW, he went on to attend the Naval War College (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_War_College) in Newport, Rhode Island (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport,_Rhode_Island), and became the Deputy Chief of Staff in the NATO (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO) command AFNORTH (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allied_Forces_Northern_Europe)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Guggenberger

There's even a short you-tube video about him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-KEPtY_vbU&list=PLdGiiI-URV5g6d6g9pTbxePBt4AAShbPy&index=6
