Hi All:)

Well MS doe's a new one on me again. Just to keep the record straight I bought in 2005 XP Pro sp2 @ $199.99 at Frys Electronics.

I've reformated more than a few times for a number of reasons includeing just to clean out all the crap.

The last time I had to call to rergister and Activate OK.

Last nite I updated my NaVidia card drivers and it did a restart OK.

But to my suprise after I entered my password BOOM !!! Up popped a window from MS telling me since I made a major HARDWARE UPGRADE I
had to REREGISTER and REACTIVATE . Just for installing Drivers?

Has this happened to anyone else? And those ASSHATS at MS think I'll upgrade to VISTA. YAH RIGHT.

Again I ask ,Has this happened to anyone else ?

Thats typical. Vid card / cpu type, etc are all logged for machine when XP is installed. CHange too much hardware, and yes, re-activation needs to be done. You should still be able to do it via the inet without calling them. Otherwise a call to MS for a rediculously long activation code is in order.

I have personally experimented with this activation though and it seems you can activate it, and then ghost the image and if you have the exact same hardware, you can have it working on 100 different machines if you want without it realizing that it needs to be reactivated.

Just some results from my experiments.

You have some nerve installing a new graphics card on one of Bill Gate's computers.

What where you thinkin? That you owned that computer or something :rotfl:

One of these days I expect to install some third party software only to have Microsoft say "uh no, permission denied, you should use the MS software"

When that happens the next thing my computer will say will be "what are you doing Dave?"
