Something out of the ordinary happened this morning. At night I managed to get past the escort screen and set up an attack on a Graville-type freighter. At a range of about 360 metres I fired a torp and hit it in the bow area, it went down a few minutes later. However, the reaction from the rest of the convoy was somewhat chaotic in that they started to do 360 degree turns and were all over the place. Not such a bad tactic as it screwed up my attack on a second Granville. Submerged I pulled away from the convoy to a distance of about 7-8kms. By this time the convoy had re-grouped and were sailing along in a nice orderly fashion. This was my second attack on this convoy, the first time they just zig-zagged after I had put a couple of large merchants down. The Convoy Commodore probably thought that this new tactic would avoid futher immediate losses, which it did.:|\\

Here goes with my third attack.

This kind of behaviour actually happened IRL, sometimes it was ordered in advance to react like this if one of the ships got hit but other times it was just pure panic of the crews.

I've seen convoys get disordered like that twice when ships get disabled up front. After an attack, all hell breaks loose and ships swerve across two or three lanes which snowballs into evasive action by everyone. It takes hours for them to get back into formation. Torpedo solutions become difficult because speeds and AOB's are no longer uniform, but smetimes ships stop completely for a few minutes to avoid collisions and sit there like ducks. Escorts have a hard time navigating the mess too, which is good.
