Hey all. I just bought SH4 a couple of days ago and have never played a subsim before ever. I was just wondering, I've been sent out on my first patrol around the Marshall Is. and have been out now for almost 20 days without seeing an enemy vessel. Is this normal for a patrol or am I missing the point (and the enemy) here?

It's quite normal... I have never been sent to Marshal in any of my patrols, but I spent 37 days on my first patrol to the east china seas (the day I bought the game) and never saw a single ship the WHOLE time I played it. Thank god I discovered the MODS here and got a few pointers from people here and it made the game much more enjoyable... try going to the MODS section and grabbing a few of them.

Awesome! Thanks for the help, I don't feel as bad now. I'll definitely look up the mods. Again thanks.

You don't need mods to survive the Marshall doldrums. Go there, satisfy the gray icon by arriving, then go elsewhere and sink stuff. No mods necessary to do that. The Marshalls is a wasteland where there is almost no enemy activity. Keep an eye on contact reports, read the other threads in this forum discussing hot spots, read some historical documents on when and where there was battle and patrol activity and you'll have no trouble finding contacts.

The Marshalls are a backwater for most of the war. Once you've satisified your objective go south into the Carolines and park yourself around Truk. There's usually some traffic going to and fro.

Just wanted to welcome you here Prushn! Don't worry, I was in your EXACT same situation only 4 months ago. I received SH4 for my birthday in December having never played a submarine sim before. There is much to learn, but that's a big part of the fun. Before you know it you'll be installing and tinkering with mods and making videos. :)

Welcome to the game and welcome to SUBSIM.COM!

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

There was once a poll thread here asking "How Old Are You?" I had to put myself in the top range: "51-I actually served on a u-boat." :rotfl:

I just got SilentHunter IV and there seem to be one major command missing..

How do you order "Abandoned Ship”? :)
