Hi
Just wondering out loud ,
Since the US fleet is now in SHIII
and the models of the IJN Sub and Mini sub can be made into SHIII
Imagine, A scenerio set up,, aircraft set to come in at 0755 local. The fleet moored, .. and it is dec 6th 1941, Your departing from your base sub, destination Pearl Harbor.
Could the main large I-boat be made into a base,
and the type c Midget be made into a Human controlled sub,
and at the start of the scenerio, be set in position like the real I-boat at the Pearl harbor raid, and as a scenerio Raid Pearl?
Or other scenerios with the same arrangement for Sydney, Hobart ect,
Would this be interesting to anyone else asides from myself.
Once I finish the WWI Submarine, I am thinking of adding the Type C midget sub as a port raider, but have no idea how to make the Bigger I-boat into a base to launch from and return to.
Any thoughts on this folks,, or a silly idea all together?

Sounds like an ambitous project. I don't fancy playing Japanese suicide sub commander but I also don't see why such a thing couldn't be modded. Might be a good question to ask in the SH4 forums too. :hmm:

On a historical note, the first shot fired at the onset of hostilities between Japan and America in 1941 was the destroyer, USS Ward, depth charging and sinking a Japanese sub that was supposed to take part in the raid at Pearl.
Not exactly an encouraging note for the would be Jap sub skippers here. :p

Sounds cool (and ambitious), i didnt even know there were any I-Boats shIII... the museum takes an age to load so ive not seen all the units that GWX2 added though.
Interesting idea there. Though way more ambitous (probably have to be a single mission) is that you learn about Japan's plans to attack Pearl Harbor and are sent with a wolfpack of subs to find their carriers and sink them before they can execute the attack. Could potentially change the US from an ally to a neutral country for the duration of the war.

I remember in the weeks before SH4 was released, there were several postings wanting to know whether one could 'pre-empt' the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor with an attack of their own on the Japanese carrier fleet north of Oahu. People love to change history single-handedly. ;)

No it wouldn't. It would just have pissed us off even more.
Would it have effected how we prosecuted the war in the Pacific? Certainly. A shortage of carriers would hurt badly. But it wouldn't be the kind of thing that would knock us out of the war. It wouldn't even have prolonged it, because we still develop the Bomb in 1945. Except maybe instead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we hit Tokyo and Berlin.

Umm...I think he meant the IJN carriers?
