In the scenes when they have the bare metal Terminator T-101's they walk really klunkily like the robots of yore, but when they have the human skin on they can run and are really fluid like humans?

That's because in the days when those movies were made, they didn't have convincing CGI and used puppets and stop motion animation. With the human skin on, they were played by "oddly enough" humans" Of COURSE there's going to be a difference.

Also, one could say that when they lost their "skin" that the unlucky terminator recieved "battle damage" in the process somehow. *shrug*

In the new TV series, a terminator loses it's skin and it does walk a lot more convincingly as it's motion captured CGI. The technology isn't truely perfect yet... but it's close.

Even in the SC Chronicles I'd have thought that CGI has caught up so much it would be a lot more fluid.

Steed your right they should walk fluidly like humans do. Robot walking look, gives a certain eerie non human look to the movie. But not very realistic.:yep:

If you ever really witness a cyborg walking like that beside you... RUN! :rotfl:

Unless it's that HOT terminator who looks like Summer Glau. If you see that one, immediately ask for her phone number ! :D

Another annoying thing is that the terminators give off very loud robot-sounds when they walk around, if the director need to make it very clear that this-is-a-terminator.

One things I wonder about the Summer glau terminator, I wonder how human she is as it is obvious John Connor fancies her.

Two thigns I noted.

1. T888s got quite wide chest. How they fit into a normal looking human skin?
2. Cameron eats...does she fart too?

I think there's a classic example of stop motion and figurine work working very very well inside a movie:

It was all done with green screen and models, but damn did it look convincing.

I do not envy Peter Weller inside the Robocop costume either.

A possible explanation (at least I try to convince myself): Human-looking terminators not only have skin 'grown' on them, but muscles as well. This gives them better balance and mobility. At least it worked for Data. (Yeah, that's the ticket: throw in a Trek reference and they'll believe anything).

Did I say that out loud?
