I would try reasoned and rational argument with the zombies to dissuade them from
brains and destruction.
Killing them will only alienate and foster resentment in the vast ravaging zombie hoards.

I am sure that not only can the unholy animations of the innumerate dead live

On the contrary. Bulky, needless ammo weighs you down and inhibits movement across great distances. You dont need 7.62mm rounds when a simple .22 will do the trick ;)

.22s' have a bad habit of bouncing off of the target (in this theory the zombie skulls'). If you have a reliable .223 rifle and a large rucksack, you can carry about 1,000 rounds of .223 PCA without any problem. You can use the ammo to hunt for food, kill of zombies, and defend yourself from hostile parties. If you're a good shot, it should last you a long time......provided you're not careless with its' use.
