Are the radio messages we receive on a regular basis just for immersion only or can they be followed up on as in the case of convoys or warship locations like the Bismark for example.
I read in the ubi.com forum that a player received a radio message about Bismark and was in the area so went to investigate and found her and was able to take out the British ships attacking her.
So this got me curious.

Well some messages are historical and the scripted events are historical too.
You do the math. :p

lo mate
im sure amost of the messages are for immersion only......a good thing too as stock sh3 was pretty p*** poor when it came to contact from bdu!!!!
some messages may be accurate but i look upon them as immersion
Yeah, like von hally says, most are for immersion.
I hate getting bumped out of 1000TC for an immersion message every couple of minutes so I go into the campaign folder and delete all the messages that aren't detailing scripted events.

Thanks for your help all. Much appreciated! :()1:
If using a mega mod many of them have scripted major events so you can guess at which are modeled. Bismark would be, as would any major invasion (if using GWX).

SOS and SSS signals are definitely immersion only, as are orders that make no sense ("Move to area 'F'") as well as reports from other u-boats, and reports of u-boat sinkings. Ocassionally you'll even get a report of your own boat being sunk. Orders to move to a new area are probably from real life, but you might as well follow them, if only for fun.
I also like to follow the early-war 'general orders' ("No ocean liners"), even though they have no bearing on the game.

Yeah, I always leave those.

Yes, I follow the orders given as well as those for my boat with the exception of BDU telling me to return home or something that doesn't make sense for my situation. Until I started this thread I didn't realize :nope: there were actual scripted events that could be followed up on. I had been under the impression that everything in the radio messages was strictly for immersion. I'm in Jan '40 right now in my 3rd patrol so will be paying closer attention to the messages I get.:smug:

I just received orders to go to grid GR28, I`m just South of Gibralter, and sank a small merchant. That means I`ll have to refuel at my supply ship just South of my position. I`ve been to Freetown several times but, never as far as Capetown, lot of Allied ports in the area. Should be interesting to say the least. Puts

You should catch some nice prizes as they 'sail around the bend' http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
Blue_Ninja63 - the GWX manual lists the major scripted events. Dates and locals and such.
Understandable if you want to go through a campaign without knowledge of future events - but it's often hard to reach an active event unless you know enough to be nearby before hand.

Thanks Umfuld, I have been reading the manual to catch up on what's new in GWX 2.0 and definitely understand what you are saying:up:
