Captains,

Digital_Trucker and I would like to create an award to honor Dave "LeoVampire", and keep his name around these waters, in which I will donate my copy of the SH4 U-Boat Missions Expansion pack to the most deserving subsim community member. The award will be in the spirit of a humanitarian award, so please post the forum member that you feel best fits the following, as Digital_Trucker puts it;

“Dave was always helping everyone, and added soo much to SH4” We thank you for your support and ask that you all vote for, whom you feel is the most deserving member of our community. Our goal with be to create an award which rewards a new Submarine simulation (when released) to the individual who deserves it more. We are starting the award and offering the SH4 U-Boat Missions Expansion pack to honor Dave, but in the future hope the publishers like UBI or through donations from the community, will keep this award going on in Dave "LeoVampires" name.

Thank you,
-sqk and DT

I know some of these guys didn't offer mods but that's the spirit of what we had in mind. This wasn't really intended to be a "modders award" but more of an award for the folks that are the epitome of the word "humanitarian". The folks that you can always count on to be helpful and encouraging to the total noobs, the old salts and all the rest of us in between. The folks that make this community (forget community, this family) an enjoyable place to be. Kind of like the Oscar for (and I can't believe that I'm going to try to be "politically correct" here) best supporting "ActingPerson". The person who doesn't get a lot of the publicity, but is just as important to the "big picture".
Dave / LeoVampire
(a humanitarian award) Dedicated to the thankless, tireless subsim forum member.

[from the Kill Flags mod, post #2]

Glad you feel happy enough with it to make a main post!
Now good luck with it! My advice run away for a vacation then come back and deal with it! :rotfl:
Nice to give to the community sometimes and I know the whole team feels the same way! BTW good night guys it is 3 A.M. here stayed up to get it out to all of you so see you when I get up again I am tired to say the least.

You said it LV, WELL DONE!

And THANK YOU ALL!

*now go enjoy your new creation and get some kills on that Battle flag of yours

“Dave Bunnell aka Leovampire. Dave's creation of ROW for SH4 was the most exciting modification to SH4 since it's release. This is self evident by the amount of posting traffic. Dave's dedication, excellent work and memory will live on in this thread. When you install the mod and watch the sun rise and set, remember Dave's passion for SH4, creating the very best for all players of SH4. Dave was never one to say 'Final Release'. That is Dave's greatest gift to this community and SH4. The drive Dave had with ROW/SH4 and all his physical issues simply edifies one man's desire to strive for the very best for fellow players of the game, SH4. To put it simply, the mod was so good that most players would not play the game until Dave' fixed or enhanced his work when needed. That speaks volumes for Dave's creativity and passion for the game and the Subsim community. Dave was a genuine as genuine gets. Always stopping to help others with any problems concerning the game, even if it did not pertain to his mod! Dave's untimely demise 01/2008 warrants a continuation of this thread and his work. Dave was certainly a friend to all within this community.” [TRIBUTES]

Well hell, I can't make up my mind who. I have a few in mind...

Community member. Well I know Neal is the admin here so is he classed as a community member:hmm: I personally think it should go to Neal Hes had this site running for us for 10yrs or more now, pays his own way to keep it running with the help of donations & it must be a struggle at times to keep it running. Plus he has to put up with us!:p He deserves it IMO.

They are all just as important as the rest so real hard to think of just one. :hmm:

Problem is many if not most of the "deserving" candidates already have it.

Perhaps you should vote on some new modders, and give it to them as encouragement to keep trying.

I think Dave might've liked that.

Very nice thread. My vote goes to Mr Kriller2 for keeping working hard on the ROW project.

My vote goes to stabiz. If there was anyone who could make a video game look like a movie, its him.

KRILLER 2 has my vote for continuing Daves work. Daves passing hit us all hard and kriller took up the task where Dave left off.

I know some of these guys didn't offer mods but I'd like nominate the following outstanding human beings who, I think reflects Mr. Leo's helpfulness and generosity-

AckbarGulag- for emailing me the mods when I couldn't download them from FileFront.
Sailor Steve- for offering his copy of SH4 for my friend in Barbados.
Rockin Robbins- for recommending offering a copy of the add-on.
Peabody- for having a nice sense of humour and an all-round friendly chap.

If I've left out anyone, I'm sorry. Old age causes that.

Ah. heck why dontcha give the award to the whole SubSim Community- You know they deserve it!:hmm::yep:

I really admire the thought behind this, but I think that Dave would feel that we as a community are special here, and not any one individual.

The best way to honor Dave is to continue to use ROW, as modified by Kriller's group, and to continue to support the Devs. :D

there are so many on this forum that are worthy...

every 'shortlist' i've come up with still looks like a crew manifest...

I'll try and whittle it down to one...but god that's a tough ask...

There is one person here that is usually one of the first people to welcome new members in this forum.
He also is one of the first people to offer help to people, not just by his words, but he also puts in the extra effort of finding supporting links for the questions that are asked.

I vote for reallydedpoet.

Yeah, I know what you're saying DT. I've been a member in different gaming sites and never really felt comfortable and felt like a real foreigner. SubSim is the first ever site that on day one felt right at home.:yep::up:

And that is to bad DT, both you and sqk have done great things here, not just with your mods ( Kill Flags, Radio Manger, etc. ) but how you go about doing it. I don't see to many users of either of the mentioned mods go away with an unanswered question or the like. You both are class acts in my book

Having said all of this, I nominate kriller. Many folks were not sure what to do when Dave passed, and rightfully so, Dave had that affect on us all, but you got a sense that folks wanted to see his work continued (after all he had brought ROW so far, it was his driving purpose in life, many here provided help along the way). With the help of members here, kriller stepped up the the plate and has been carrying on the work of ROW work ever since releasing various versions including his current work in progress for 1.5.

Along the way he still manages to assist others with their stuff :yep: There will never be another Dave, nor should there be, but there can be those here that aspire to make SUBSIM a better place ( Dave held SUBSIM in the highest regard ) kriller fits that mold.

@ JREX53, thanks again for the kind words.

I know sh*t about modding . I have 2 left hands what pc stuff concerns . My youngest son (26) even calls me "grasshopper"...but i think "SKWASJER" would be a good choise .
Leo made a huge difference for most (all) of us with ROW and the spirit behind it in helping "2 left handers" like me aswell .
From what i understand is skwasjers tool something that opens "closed hatches" and makes a huge difference in moddingpossibilities and at the end of the line ..for us all mod users.
I see him help , advice , analyse and this allways in a gentel and serieus way .

To quote Powers Boothe from Tombstone: "Well..........bye.":rotfl:

Nomination seconded; not because I want to see Ducimus go again, but because, though I've unintentionally offended him once or twice, I believe the work he has put into improving subsims is deserving of at least some recognition.

I also agree with Schultzy: there are so many worthy choices that it's never going to be fair.:dead:
