Why does the green line on the nav map hook away from the target? I am perpendicular to a target and get the white X close to, if not on, the locked ship, but the fish ofen move away from the target. I am playing ver 4.1 and have inputed all relevant data into the TDC.
TIA!

The torps head off at an angle which will result in the torp meeting the target ship when it gets to a projected future spot....assuming the target ship changes neither its speed nor heading. Actually, the torp will intersect/meet the White X, regardless of where the ship actually goes. That's what the TDC calculates/does.
WWII torps were not wire guided. Like a rifle tracking a running deer, if you fired right at the deer you'll miss. You have to lead the target which is what the TDC does. The green line is the result of the calculation. It will only cross the actual position of the target ship if it is not moving.
