I've been reading the accounts of the election all day. Evidently, no one was real surprised... :shifty:

Sung to "I'm your Puppet" by James and Bobby Purify.

Pull the string and I'll talk for you, I'm your puppet
I'll do ineffective things 'cause you want me to, I'm your puppet
Mm. I'm yours to own and to mold
Vladimir, you've got full control of your puppet

Pull my little strings and I'll launch your ships, I'm your puppet
Snap your fingers and I'll turn nuclear tricks, I'm your puppet
Mm, I'll keep command while you're away
In only 4 years you can be back to stay
I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet

I've been bought and sold, won't do anything bold,
Holding the Presidency for you
I'm a Putin fanboy too, do what I'm told to do
I'll do anything for you

I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet

Just pull them little strings and I'll turn off the gas, I'm your puppet
Your Cold War policies are safe in my hands, I'm your puppet.
Mm, whisper in my ear and I'll do anything
I'm just a puppet and you hold my string, I'm your puppet

I'm your puppet...

The orignal lyrics are of course, "I'm Your Puppet" by the Purify Bros.

But the changes to the lyrics are mine. :yep:

I like writing satire. Wrote this in another thread in response to Radical Muslims getting a nuke from Pakistan:

[Telephone ringing... ringing... ringing... ringing... finally picked up]

Customer support person (with a heavy accent): Hello and many greetings to you! My name is Bob. May I have your name and account number please?

Radical Muslim (with accent): Er, what? No, you may not have my name, infidel defiler! I just have a question about this warhead? Ok?

CS Bob: I'm very sorry sir. Do you have an account with us?

RM: No! Well, er, I did once. But that was a long time ago... I haven't used it in a while...

CS Bob: That is perfectly fine sir. If you would give me your name, I can look it up in our database...

RM: [curses in Arabic] All right. If that's the only way you can help me. Osama bin Laden. Little "b", capital "L". I had my account about 15 years ago.

CS Bob: Thank you Mr. bin Laden. Just a moment while I get your account information.

[Pakistani elevator music plays] 10 minutes later...

TS Bob: Thank you for holding sir. I have your account information. How may I assist you?

RM: Geez, it took long enough! I'm on my cell and this is costing me. Whaddayou guys use for a database? Microsoft?

CS Bob: Many apologies sir. I do not know what we use. I am just accessing your file from my terminal.

RM: It's probably a Microsoft product. Their crap is everywhere. Should be using Oracle...

CS Bob: Yes sir.

RM: Anyway I've got a nuclear bomb from your country and I can't get it to detonate and I need some help.

CS Bob: Very good sir. What model is the bomb you are having trouble with?

RM: Model? Criminy, I don't know. It's one of the smaller models I guess.

CS Bob: I will need the model number sir.

RM: Model number! geez... Ok, ok. Where is it located?

CS Bob: Well sir, depending on the model, it could be in one of several places. I can describe the location...

RM: [interruptng] Hey wait, look... this thing is round, kinda shaped like a beer can, painted in black and yellow stripes and is about 3 feet high with a button box on top. Does that help?

CS Bob: Yes, thank you sir. Please hold while I get some information.

[Pakistani elevator plays in the background] 5 minutes later...

CS Bob:Thank you for holding Mr. bin Laden. I am thinking you have a Shiva Model Type AX1129. That is the only model we've had with a button box on the top.

RM: Ok, so now can you help me? I mean I've tried everything and I just can't get this puppy to blow...

CS Bob: I will need the serial number please.

RM: What? Serial number! Man this really getting me steamed! All I want is a little information and it's like your putting me through a CIA interrogation at Guantanamo Bay. Geez...

CS Bob: [coldly formal] Pardon me SIR... I am trying to help you but I must have certain information to do so. The Shiva Model Type AX1129 was a mid-year run and there were changes made in the firing order sequencer. That is why I now need the serial number.

RM: Alright, alright. <sigh> Where is the serial number? Man this is more trouble than it's worth...

CS Bob: The serial number of the Shiva Model Type Ax1129 thermonuclear device is located on a small metal tag, attached to the cylinder, riveted just below the button box.

RM: Ok, just a minute, the bomb is in the other room. Can you hold a moment and I'll get the number. Just a sec...

[puts phone down and stomps off muttering in Arabic under his breath]

[a moment later]

RM: [picking up the phone] There's no tag. It's been removed...

CS Bob: That is unfortunate sir. I can only assist you if I have the proper information. Without the serial number, I cannot help you further. However our Technical Support Department can assist you.

RM: [exasperated] Oh for crying out loud! I can't believe this. Oh, alright then. Tranfer me to your technical support department will ya?

CS Bob: I'm sorry sir, you will have to call back tomorrow. Our technical support department is closed for the day. I can give you the num...

RM: [issuing a string of strong oaths in Arabic]: Forget it son of a diarrheatic camel! ! I've wasted too much time trying to get this piece of cr*p working and I can't call back tomorrow! Thanks for nothing! This'll be the last time I use a Pakistani weapon I'll tell you! I knew we should have gone Russian on this! Look "Bob", I know a lot people and there's no way I'll ever recommend your nukes again!

[slams phone]

Have to agree with you there. Sad really.

Old Putin and his cult of personality grows even bigger. I can only assume once Medvedev has completed his first term that the old autocrat himself, Putin will step back into the shoes of President, not that he really is stepping out of them. ;)

Before complaining that they do not play to your rules, you better try to imagine how russia should function, shouold remain stable and should be kept together with a Westerneurope-kind of "demicracy". Just olook back at the yeltzin years to see how bad it payed off for Russias.

Me, I am selfish and look at what it brings for us. Our priorities must be a stable russia, a Russia where the military does not revolt and obey to the state leadership, a Russia where the southern Islamic provinces do not brake away, and where nuclear installations both military and civilian do not fall into the wrong hands of Islamic extremists. I cannot imagine how this could be acchieved or how you could keep together a country covering not only multiple time zones, but even several cultural spheres and different peoples with a "democratic" model like European nations. We have recently demanded more democarciy in several different countries over the past 10, 12 years - and all to often this turned against us and helped forces to increase their influence that we tried to prevent by that. For these powers, including islam, democracy it just a train they are temporarily ryiding on - when they have arrived at their planned destination, they leave it and do their business again. And again, I cannot see much good in the open democartoc days of Yeltsin - it was the open sellout of russian interests and economic filetparts to aggressively advancing western corporations that also helped to install and foster the grey world of organised crime and the rich elites that all too often cannot be separated from each other. Amongst others, Putin at least acchieved to get this under control, althoug not preventing it totally, and that is much more than what Yeltsin acchieved, who let it all slide.

We do not have the right to demand Russia acting stupidly and against it'S own interests. And let'S face it: propaganda here, supression of opposition there - Putin was and still is extremely popular in Russia, especially amongst the young. Call him a schemer, call him a dicator or tyrant if you want - I must say I have seen far worse and brutal dictators in the past. I must not like him, and I even can warn my own country to make itself too dependant from Russian gas - buzt for the time being I can live better with Putinland than with Yeltsin's Russia, or a destabilizing Russia no longer able to remain in control of it's own businesses, interests, military and national integrity.

For those complaining about democracy - and I am far from a Putin supporter - may I remind everyone that for whatever is said, the support for Putin (and by extension Medvedev) is NOT at all fake. The vast majority of Russians genuinely and wholeheartedly support the president.

For this one it's not Putin (or mostly not him) that we have to thank. If there is one person to blame, it's the oh-so-democratic western darling Yeltsin who killed Russian democracy when he sent tanks to the "White House" in 1993. It's been all over since then.

I think we can put a little gravestone now saying "RIP Russian Democracy 1991-1993". If any of you happened to live in Russia in 1991-1993, I'm sure your first reaction (as mine) would (unfortunately) be "good riddance!" :hmm: Noone wants to be back in that pile of doo-doo.

Personally I believe the election results were 100% accurate. They totally reflect my impressions from my friends and relatives in Russia.

Which is really unfortunate. The real problem in Russia is not democracy, nice values of all sort, and free speech - all that can come later. Russia's tragedy is purely socioeconomic in origin. You'll never get people whose first worry is food on the table for tomorrow to give a damn about democracy or free speech. And you'll likewise never get people on the benefitting end of the deal, the ones who drive Mercedes cars and have posh Datchas outside of Moscow, to care about change - change is BAD for them. They'll do everything to keep the status quo.

Fresh short story from us:

Medvedev's mom is calling:

- Oh my son ! I was so worried about you - I even didn't sleep last night!

- Mom, I didn't expect YOU to be kidding...

It's not quite a correct translation from Russian but as close as I can ;) .

As for me I like today's Russia MUCH more than 1991-1993 ! And I cannot understand why do the western mass media talk so much of lack of freedom in Russia ? For me and for most part of people I know there is plenty of it - just read Russian Internet - sometimes it calls for Tzar's way censorship what they are writing...
