Why is it that when you rotate the peri at low power, it rotates faster than at high magnification. Assuming that, realistically, one can "walk" the scope around at the same speed regardless of the magnification level.
Not a big deal, just wondering.

It's probably playing with sensitivity values. If the sim kept the rotation amounts the same, then it'd be difficult to rotate the high magnification a small amount.
Yes, if the magnified turned at the same rate as unmaged, the scenery would blur by so fast it would be impossible to focus on anything. Ever tried to use binoculars?

I agree with theluckyone17 that that's probably the case. But wouldn't it be the same in reality?
I mean we don't have horizontal stability for bino viewing ( if we choose ). So why not allow the same relative difficulty for high power periscope viewing?

We were discussing rotation speed, not gyro stability.

I realise that they are different issues Pv.
My point was that --in real life-- holding binos steady and rotating the peri carefully at higher mags requires careful handling.

My guess would be that it's probably too touchy at higher mags... I think the alternative would be annoying.
Since the mag level adjusts with a mouse-wheel scroll, I find it rather second nature to zoom out for fast scrolling and zoom in for finer control. I seldomly find myself doing 360° scans while zoomed in.

And don't forget on your computer you can rotate your zoomed out scope 360 degrees with a few inches travel on your mouse. In real life the captain has much finer control over periscope movement and uses his whole body to move the scope, which allows him to be more accurate when zoomed in.
You can pan while zoomed at different speeds just like you can pan unzoomed at different speeds:
<- -> normal speed (normal for the zoom level, that is).
control <- -> Pan at reduced speed (for ulta fine control.)
shift <- -> Pan at increased speed (this allows you to pan so quickly at zoomed-in level the scenery blurs by, but you can quickly move your view without zooming out and back in.)
The TBT, machine gun, bridge, binoculars, pariscope and deck gun have this same ability. The flexibility built in to these controls should satisfy everyone's taste when properly used.
