Also, to any German folks here, do people still regard Kraftwerk as Germany's Beatles? :hmm:

"Die Prinzen" were popular during the 1990s and had some hits in the charts as I recall. Nowadays the have disappeared as far as I can tell. Listening to the videos that were posted here I have to admit that their music is more appealing to me than it was back then when they were in the charts.
According to Wikipedia they are still on tour and even have released albums constantly during the past few years.

Kraftwerk, I never met somebody who compared them with the Beatles and I could not name a single song of them. Not really the kind of music I listen to, so...
(For me it's one of those bands that are/were more popular abroad - especially in the US - than in Germany.).

Kraftwerk was high-profile in the 80s in germany. thtey are still active - but today, most people in germany may remember them from the 80s ("Wir sind die Roboter"), but people are surrprised if telling them that they still exist in the present. they seem to be better known outside germany now. their last world tournee was 2004 and 2005, and was highly successful and completely sold out (more than 100 concerts). Their last tour so far was a small one in Europe 2006, as far as i know.

I've got the Collectors Edition of their latest 'Notebook' Album, including a DVD of their 2004 tour. Some great stuff on there. I'm rather partial to 'Vitamin' and 'Autobahn'

Suppose Kraftwerk is a generation thing.
I never got into their music because I'm simply too young.
But they're definitely still around.
German language music definitely bounced back recently. During the 1990s it was basically dead, at least in mainstream, now charts are almost 50% german language.
But that does not automatically means quality. Today I listened to a german mainstream chart show on the radio and I nearly threw up.
:rotfl:

Re die Prinzen, I never liked a capella groups, except for the comedian harmonists.

That generation thing applies to me too I would say.
And a capella, yes it's disgusting most of the time.

Kraftwerk got their first break with their 14-15 minute 'Autobahn', which was actually very popular with Americans (particularly Hells Angels. No Joke.)

But their first song to get worldwide recognition was probably 'The Model' which got to number 3 here in the UK and quite high in the US, too. They were very popular in france, and they continue to sell out venues such as Sonnemondesterne and Tribal Gathering. They're still awesome to watch, and are living proof you dont have to swear, do drugs, or dance around like a moron onstage to make good music.

Hasn't Rammstein a song named "Das Model" too? Or is it a cover of the Kraftwerk song?

Poor is relative. I'd say neither of them is good ;)

By coincidence I'm listening to Kraftwerk, Minimum Maximum! And I am still bang my head :damn: for not going to the concert in 2005 here in Portugal!
Since I was 8-9 years, I love Kraftwerk. One friend of mine had a LP with various songs and the two that we loved more were one of Duran Duran (oki, I like, but at the time we didn't know what duran duran was... ) and Tour de France!
