Canovaro's Document Collection

Dear fellow kaleuns,

During my gaming experience with Silent Hunter III, I witnessed a growing pile of papers, graphs, sheets and notes covering my desk. Some time ago I got the idea to assemble them and make them available for printing, both for myself and the community at Subsim.com and every SH3 player in general. This collection is the result. It exists of both my own work and ideas as well as the works and ideas of others. To them I owe great respect, appreciation and thanks.

Almost all of the documents are in pdf format so you can print them easily with a pdf reader (like FoxitReader which is included in the collection) and use them in the game. Have fun.

Ah-ha! World grid map! Now I have a way of reporting my position to BdU spinnennetz when I go after the arctic convoys. Excellent! :arrgh!:

I was looking at the u-boat commanders handbook in there and came to this

"The following rule of thumb serves to determine, in good time, the distance of the submarine
When about launch the attack, (torpedo) abreast of the enemy.
In position 5°, the lateral distance from the enemy = 1/10, in position 10° = 1/5, in position
15° = 1/4, in position 20° = 1/3, in position 30° = 1/2 of the momentary distance."

Does anyone have any idea what this means??

You can take the stuff you like out of the collections zip on your site, but some files have a 'how to use' file with them, so it may be good to put them together for download.
If you really like all the stuff, you can just put the whole zip on your site, but that's up to you ;)
Please beware that only half of the stuff is originally mine. Other stuff should be credited for the original creator, like i did in the index file.

I don't understand what that means either :doh:
Maybe: when you are in a 90 degrees angle, and you see the target at 10 or 350 degrees, then the distance between the 'crosspoint' and you compared to the distance between the 'crosspoint' and the target is 1/5
That should mean that if he is at 45 degrees the distance sould be 1/1 (both equally far away from the 'crosspoint')

Then, if you take the sine of them the ratios come out close (well, with a large margin of error for the smaller angles) to represent the ratio between your distance to the 'crosspoint' and distance of the target to you. Your 1/1 ratio at 45 degrees would not be correct. 7/10 would be better.
