Not exactly naval but definitely maritime "Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm " is a forthcoming PC & XBOX 360 game based upon the Discovery Channnel show of the same name. With massive waves and realistic ships including a USCG cutter it looks pretty good and is almost there with an announced release of April 08.

check out the announcement & screenshots (http://www.360-hq.com/article2405.html)

The game seems to have been conceived by the fishermen themselves which bodes well for its authenticity & atmosphere.

That's what I was thinking. I like the series and this game looks interesting. :)

The 40ft waves will make me get this game :yep: about time some developer did this.

If this is done right it could be absolutely great (I doubt it will be done right). I am dying for games where not all the action is centered around shooting. Trawler sim / experience of arctic water / add in some strategy to find the crabs / I would buy this!

What makes me suspicious is the short time between announcement and release - usually not a good sign. And development for the 360 does not promise the gameplay we probably all hope for.

The game has been in development for three years, maybe they are just the kind of company who doesn't make announcements until they are sure that the game is ready for sale and free of bugs. Actually quite a good thing, in a world where most companies set projected release dates years in advance, based on financial targets, make their devs work to an impossible schedule and ship a half complete game, i wonder what kind of company would dare to do that, here's a clue... (U*isoft).

This could be true as well. Let's hope you are right.

I think you'd need to play this in the freezer with someone throwing buckets of sub-zero salt water on you every few seconds to really get that authentic feel ;):D

I'm usually suspicious of movie & TV show based games but the description is encouraging. It looks like you can create your own fishing boat - an important feature to me. The Coast Guard missions sound like fun, and they're apparently taking the time to create a decent career mode, instead of just single scenarios.

I like the fact that it was the skippers themselves that initiated the idea for a game amd have been with it from the start insisting on authenticity. Let's hope that part's true and not just marketing B.S.

Another short video (http://www.greenwavegames.com/news.html)of the game has been posted check out the 3d sequence after the captain's intro, not sure whether it's a cutscene or gameplay but it looks pretty sweet.

Here is an article that explains some things about the gameplay .. I hope it's not been posted before:

http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/860/860394p1.html

I like it so far. It sounds like there is a lot of strategy. Now lets hope the 360 does not spill desaster for another great PC game idea .. in the form of a retarded UI, savegame slots etc. In other words - if this is a good PC game, I will certainly get it.

^ I totally agree. If this is a PC game I will be purchasing too. Seems the game market has been so stale lately. Company after company selling the same exact things in different packaging.

Its so refreshing to see a unique idea coming out.

And a non violent game too. Sounds like a nice change for awhile.

Great find GlobalExplorer, sounds like there is quite a lot of detail going in there, hope the game makes its scheduled April release!

Where is this Game?

I have high hopes for this game, though I should be werey because its a discovery channel game and previous discovery channel games sucked (Though I find the civil war game entertaining). I would love nothing more to come home from work, throw the game into my Xbox, pop open an anchor steam, and virtually fish for crab! Maybe play some Jimmy Buffet or Bob Marley while I play it, but they might not fit the cold alaskan setting. On another note, one of the harbors you can sail out of in the game is Dutch Harbor, the site of a submarine base in SHIV. I wonder if they are modeled the same?

I read the article and it's pretty awesome that you can employ all kinds of psychology on the AI captains. They'll ask you if the fishing is good in your area, and you can decide whether or not you want to tell them the truth. If you keep lying then they'll make sure to do the opposite of what you tell them - ie, head over to all the areas where you say that the fishing's bad. :rotfl:

So far I've seen coast guard cutters and fishing boats. I wonder if there will also be pleasure craft, merchant traffic, and warships.

...I wonder if there will also be pleasure craft...

I read that the game might also include skiff racing, so yea pleasure craft are included. I see this game more now as "life at sea off Alaska" then just a fishing game, cause you can do fishing, but then you can race sail boats and perform coast guard rescues and ice breaking missions. Yea its a spectrum

Hi FIREWALL
I think there is some confusion here JALU3 is probably referring to the online game up on the Discovery Channel site (http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/deadliestcatch/game/game.html).

The other two mini games (Throw-the-Hook & Skiff Racing ) are those shipping with the Alaskan Storm game.

Hmm, strange seems to be working fine for me, are your Flash/Shockwave plugins up to date?

GlobalExplorer

It opens up sum flash game where I must assign crewman to repair the coffee machine and in between try to catch some crab. I hope the game is not so simplistic - otherwise the fun is gonna be short lived.

I still don't see what I have to do to access the minigames (Throw-The-Hook etc).

All in all the website design is the kind retarded design that I hate with all my heart - a linear slideshow for people who can only bash their keyboard. Lets hope the game is a whole lot better. But I doubt it.

The mini games (throw the hook, skiff race )you refer to are only with the CD version I suspect they will be in full 3D like the main game.

Remember online website games such as the one on the Discovery site are built for very limited bandwidth to load fast and be available to the maximum possible audience, they are usually developed in Flash and consequently are very small.

We can not judge the CD/DVD game by the website game, they are completely different entities. That's like comparing SH4 to those side-view sub shootem ups that are available online.

You can get a knife and cut bait! Then for the realism mod, you soak your hands in raw shrimp, then play. Then your character can barf from the wrotten fish smell. Crab bait smells great!
