Know the feeling, I get a taste for the French landscape every time they send me out on a ground attack mission. The Bosche must have some damn good marksmen, or some cheeky bugger has drawn a target circle underneath my Sopwith Pup! Tricky getting the hang of the rudder of these kites, I seem to spend a lot of time sliding sideways, something I've never experienced before, so the first time it happened it was somewhat un-nerving. Figured it out now and can counter it, but sideways sliding at seventy feet...well...brown trousers and it wasn't caused by the fuel!

I tend never to fly lower than 3000 ft when ovr enemy territory on a ground attack mission. I don't hit much down there but then they don't hit me either and there are usually enough air targets to worry about anyway.

Balloon busting is a killer too!

Now a very promising chap named Gregory Mardell was blown to pieces over german territory. German flak. I was at aprox. 5000 feet...blimey, late war (this was January 1918) they really know how to fire those buggers!:damn:

He died on January 20th. Arrived at RFC-84 on December 1st. Been hospitalized two times.

12 claims.
4 Comfirmed. One of them a top German Ace shot down during a HUGE dogfight very long behind our own lines. It was just by the coast. Aprox. 20 Albatros vs. 4 SE5a. and 10-16 Sopwith Camels.

Well First I was straffing some tanker train and the flak got his flap jammed and then a pesky I-16 came out of nowhere and made his plane a fire ball. then he bailed and then was killed after he got out becuase of the blast. I am now the higest person in the squad with 29 air kills 11 train cars, and 2 tanks.

Righto, this' the omphteenth time I call the AI a bloody fricking idiot. Everything below the 'ace' level is just a flying circus of stupidy. You can predict their next move from 20km away. Now, put it to ace and they become robots, which is challenging yes, but it also makes the fights unfair and just ridiculous. Another thing that just hit me, is that the AI never stalls or spins WITHOUT some structural damage. Now, I'd be ok with that if it would show on their abilities in the air, but no, they can turn just as sharply as you, just without stalling. European Air War had the same thing, the AI never ever stalled/spinned, BUT in a turn fight, you could see that they didnt stall because they didnt turn sharply enough for the plane to stall. Oh, and then there's the altitude limit that was upped in some patch. You have 100000 ace AI planes after you? Dont worry, take your plane to 10m and they pretend you're not there. In stock IL2 Sturmovik, the limit was much lower or then there even wasnt a limit, which resulted in more crashes to the ground by the AI, but also made them pursue you in any altitude.

Right. Continuing the "I F**KING HATE IL2".

Here's a quick summary what happened to me in Ardennes, flying a P51. I attacked an formation of 3 BF109G6's who were flying at ~2000m. I was at 4500m when I started my dive, going at 430km/h. The time I started shooting, I was going at 690km/h and immediatly as I passed the formation, I climbed to 4200m. Next, I lost sight of the 2 remaining 109s just to realise they were both on my tail. Now, that was maybe 2½ minutes after my attack, could some kind soul explain how they managed to climb from 2000m to ~4500m and still have the E left to get on my tail? Remember, I had been flying level for abit over a minute and had my speed back to 400+km/h. :nope:

Ok, the next thing is even better. On the next mission, I was outclimbed by a pair of 109s who had been flying straight and level before they spotted me and I had just dived and had tons of E left to climb fast. It's my understanding that only the 190 'Dora' could get even with P51 on a climbing contest, not a fricking 109G6. This happened throughout the mission, even with both plane climbing side by side, stalling at the same time and leveling out at the same time, still, the 109 outclimbed to safety. :roll:

its either the AI having a FM that is unfair.

or are we really using the maximum out of our aircraft when flying it?
as with complex management you can do more then when its turned off.
(my guess when its turned off the aircraft is just dull, it flies but just on default management)

I'm pretty sure it's the AI having somekind of advantage as I dont see this when flying online or in tracks I have of other ppl flying the P51 online and I've read quite a bit of tips & hints about how to fly the P51 with CEM on, so if I'm to believe those tips, I am getting the maximum out of my P51. Also, the P51 can climb in a 90 degree angle straight up for quite some time, way longer than 109.

Righto, I've been flying for hours today in P51D-20 against FW190s and me109s and I'm now certain that the AI is a cheating bastard. No matter the skill, average, veteran & ace all outclimbed my P51 from positions like they flying level at 1000m, I diving down from 3500, having speed of 820km/h when starting the climb. They usually dont climb faster than me, but they can keep the climb going longer than me. Pretty nice, taking that they were flying ~400-450km/h against my 820km/h. :roll: Stopid.

Now, I know you are thinking Rofl, the fecka just can fly the frigging thing! but the way I fly it, I've learned from the P51 squadron, Pegasus, who from what I've seen, are pretty highly respected group because of their ability to do miracles with the P51.

Oh and the AI is too fecking accurate too. :yep:

I've seen some weird behaviour from bombers before. More than once I've seen a bomber roll from left to right continuosly, very fast.

Continuing the rant on the AI; Gunnery.

Why... WHY... cant my rear gunner shoot straight when I am in the plane?? I mean, make a quick mission with a rookie BF110 and attack it, you get quite a few hits and the gunner 90% time shoots to the right direction.

Now, you take a BF110 and have someone attack you. When the enemy is diving from right, the gunner shoots left and vice versa. Even if the enemy is straight on your six, the gunner shoots most of the times over the target!

Yeh, I know it had light armament, but ffs, if I keep making passes for 10min and then have 3 of my squadmates do passes for few minutes before I went in again the Spitfire should be in atoms. A bullet is a bullet and it makes a hole, couple of thousands of rounds counted together makes a BIG hole. ;)

Oho! You lads should've seen the furball I got into earlier today!

I was to take a new pilot up to the front in my Camel (he flew his own 'course). I'd barely gotten of the ground, when a big Cirkus of at least 10 jerry Albatrosses stormed out of the sun! Before I knew it, my poor little wingman was shot down before he knew what hit him! I was certain I'd be crushed like an ant myself, but I wanted to go down in a blaze of glory, so I stayed and fought them off, I managed to shoot down seven of 'em, that's right SEVEN!!!! And my Camel didn't even get a scratch! After that little triumph, I was out of bullets, so I did a fast landing back at the field and got myself out of there before the jerries wanted revenge.

I mean, 7 claims in one sortie! I'd get the Victoria Cross for sure, as long as the chaps on the base (about 3 km. away) kept their eyes opened).:D

zoday i had a great victory, my group of (4) BF109's went off course and attacked 11, yes 11, russian I-16 type 24's and one Yak.
while another group of 109's was underway we fought like hell, myselve shot down 5 of them while my team mates shot down 3, then the other group shot down 2. while i was enjoyng my victory and attacked 2 more of the I-16's they both broke formation and i engaged one of them, while i thought my wingman was with me i was attacked and my engine got hit. entire cabin was black from the smoke and oil spraying on the glass.
eventualy the engine cought fire and i landed the plane just in time to get out of it and runn away, few moments later the thing explodes.. but luckaly for me it was on our side of the border :arrgh!:

those pesky russians did got shot down by my squad after they shot down the other squad :nope:

gotta go now, my next plane is ready on the runnway :up:

i just finished a mission where we were ORDERED to fly stringbags (Fiat CR_42) against BF109's................ plus we were outnumbered by 1...........

and as i susspceted we were all shot down, then another stringbag squad (Gladiators) got owned.... and finaly a Hurricane squad.....

I never had to fly that much in just one sortie, but hell that was great FUN!

Aye, I enjoyed it alot. Eventho, the first sortie was uneventful for us germans, it was nice to watch the groundbattle up from the 5k I was flying at. Oh, btw, I think we crossed paths quite a few times. At first, we 190s escorted the 88s to the town in Q14 and back, after that we turned back to the town and I circled it 5-6 times. Seeing how you russians sneaked up on us, you had to be close the whole time. Great sortie. :up:

Aye, I was about a couple of grids away from Q14, I noticed the blue tracers for quit some time, but when I saw bomb flashes I knew bombers had to be there and I knew it had to be the JU88's as the PE2's wherent assigned to bomb Q14.

when I got there I notice I was too late didnt saw any aircraft nearby, untill I spotted a group of low flying bombers just west of the village in Q14.
and what do you know....I saw a single fighter :D studying the movement...must be a player aircraft..and seeying the JU88's not firing...must be Dowly :arrgh!: so I gave you scratch on the first pass but Unfortuantlymy fellow comrades shot you down.

the second sortie was fun too, at least for me and kratos...in 1 PE2...now thats some fun having a player controlled Tailgunner instead of the AI one :lol:

Was looking for the bombers, tons of planes in the air below me. Some of the fighters flew in formation too, so had to take a good look to see which one's are bombers and which are fighters.

With it one can make sharp turns at the speed that I had at that time (I was just rolling down the taxiway when I saw Dowly attacking you, so I pushed the throttle in and tried to get him off you). against IL2's its almost shooting against a brick wall as the MG's of the 109 has little effect on them.

I'm thinking to start the Kursk Campaign, because it was a all or nothing for the germans and hopefully more stuff is going on in the air and ground.

Stalingrad is great, but imo its gives the USSR little resistance we did bombing sorties and we got away with them a bit too easy.

also the main fighter the german side has is the 109F2, not really a threat...
also I would like to see more stuff going on the ground and more risk to get intercepted if you're flying bombers and ofcourse a bigger variaty of aircraft on both sides.

I know I need another 512MB of RAM to go up to 1 Gig but I thought my 8500GT would handle Il-2 no probs. I'll fiddle with my graphical settings.

OK, the machine runs fine again. It really was the power pack.

I went straight to the shop where I bought it (25km away from here, the local shops suck) and gave it back. The guy told me that it was no problem since I still had a warranty on that thing and then he said it will take about 3 - 5 WEEKS (!!!) to get my a new one! (they are sending the damaged one back to the manufacturer in China, then those guys check it and then they ship one back to Germany...or what's taking so long?)

Well I told him that I'll gladly take the new one when it has arrived and went for another shop to buy me a cheap new one right on the spot.
5-8 weeks without power? Hey I've heard there are even people who need their PC for work. Is that some sort of "better buy a new one than insist on the warranty"?

Well, almost after 2 months, I FINALLY got arsed to get my old joystick from my mom's place (I got new table, and it's done by some darn twat. So, now my tower has to be on the other end of it, making my joysticks & headset's cords too short to reach all the way there. :damn:) and installed B17 II: The mighty eight. Went with the NikiMcbee's method of making a SubSim crew for the plane "SubSim Showdown", the first mission was blast. I was quickly shown why I love this game so much, and the hearing Kratos yell from the navigator's seat "I cant get a fix of our location!" every five minutes made me grin the whole flight (Tho, during the massive flak over Brest uboat base I was silently hoping he'd get hit so I could get someone competent to fill the navigator's seat). Thanks to Kratos' poor navigation skills, we were slightly off the course when the bombing run started and because of the flak, I was busy nursing the men & putting out the fires to notice it; whole wing bombed "the red light district", oh well, atleast the morale of the uboatwaffe nosedived. :yep:

We had "only" one casualty on our flight, B17 flying on my 6o'clock low got peppered by the flak over Brest and I saw 2 of her engines smoking all the way to england. Later on I learned the plane had crashed sometime during when I had landed and all crew was KIA. :cry:

As for our B17, it was miraculously intact. Oberon, XabbaRus & Schroeder were wounded, the first two listed as "medium injury" and Schroeder as critically injured. I'm surprised NikiMcbee, who was sitting on the bomber's seat during the flak managed to dodge all the schrapnels, the nose of my B17 was black with holes after the flak. Oh well, tonight again, with new crew and maybe a better first sortie. :up:

Those pre-constructed so called PC-desks are crap anyway

I've had 2, 1 was made of that pressed togetherwood (you can only assemble it once if you disassemble it your screwed) that started to fall apart all over the place. the other one was pretty decent and everything was reachable..but the biggest flaw it was made out of METAL.
so when I had sweaty hands or something moisture on it IE cold beer can I GOT PUNISHED BY SHOCKS when I wanted to drink my beer :stare:
so tossed it all away...went to IKEA got a good size wooden plank, and 3 table legs front 2 legs and 1 in the back middle position.
Cheap and the best thing I've had yet for my PC.

Well, almost after 2 months, I FINALLY got arsed to get my old joystick from my mom's place (I got new table, and it's done by some darn twat. So, now my tower has to be on the other end of it, making my joysticks & headset's cords too short to reach all the way there. :damn:)
What about a couple of usb extension cables? if its the usb cables that are short:hmm:

They joystick is. Tho, I wouldnt hold my breath I can find one from this crappy town. The PC store consist of pretty much everything else you could think of other than something for PCs. :-?

So, here was I, the other day reading through a book I got in Leiston for 25p:

In this book it details the Luftwaffle high/low raid on Kenley, now picture the scene. Last night I boot up BOBII for a relaxing raid battle, pick a mission at random and set off in my Hurri.
Got a raid contact from control and vectored in for it, couldn't see anything but Blue 1 called out bandits at two o clock, opened the canopy and had a squint in that direction and saw a gaggle of bombers, so we dived in, I got a Dornier and I saw at least three others go down. As I overshot my kill and turned away, I saw more bombs raining down on the airfield the Dorniers had just bombed, I thought to myself 'Where the devil are they coming from?' and looked up to see a large formation overhead at some altitude. At this point I thought to myself, this is a bit odd, this is just like the raid I was reading about just the other day, so I made a note of the airfield they were raiding.

Flying a patrol over Ventnor CH, my patrol vector on the map was in the region of 290-280. I call up the tower and ask for my vector, it's 217. So I follow 217 for a bit, and I'm told the distance is 200-150 miles. So I open up the map again and take a look, the only thing 200-150 miles from me at bearing 217 is the bloody coast of France!!

Just went to take off from a runway and I was flying all around the thing. Left, right, far right, left, agian.:roll:

Disable the Z-axis and set the rudder to the keyboard, that's how I do it
