Just completed a productive little tour off of Honshu Island in early January 1942, and was returning home when I tripped across this convoy of 5 carriers, two cruisers, assorted tankers and six destroyers. Lucky for me, they were headed straight for me and all I had to do was make like a hole in the water until the lead escorts passed over the top of me. My torps clipped the Fleet Carrier and one cruiser, but I nailed two escort carriers and caught the other cruiser right in the magazine.

Spent the next 4 hours dodging tin cans from the destroyers, and they really clobbered me. Managed to sink 1 with aft tubes, and sink a tanker with a fish meant for a destroyer (lucky shot!) But my sub is so badly damaged I can't go past periscope depth. I'm still evading when my batteries hit 10%, but it's getting dark so I surface and make a run for it while blasting the pursuing destroyers with my aft mounted deck gun.

I manage to get away by the skin of my teeth, critically wounding 3 destroyers but one gets off a lucky shot and now my boat is so torn up I can't even dive to periscope depth. So, I'm dodging swarms of zeros and dive bombers on the surface all the way to Midway and am really happy to be sailing into Pearl on my floating piece of Swiss Cheese. (Although damage control reports all systems are fine)

Well the Admiral was none too pleased about the condition of my boat and I get the option to "end my career on a high note" (sunk 160,000 tons and have 6500 renown for one mission). I choose to continue and the brass puts me in a Porpoise class boat.

This should be interesting. Well. at least its not a rowboat and revolver.

Not very realistic. USS Gato didn't leave for Pearl until Feb. 1942 and her first patrol wasn't until April.

Wanna come and play with the real thing ?

You're from Cleveland. Why not join the crew of the USS Cod?

Don'tcha know the new boat is always the one the admiral wants the photographers to take his picture on cuz it's so purdy.

Problem was, you just took his "Betty Grable" of a photo op boat

and turned her into a "Emma Tansey"

You didn't happen to hit on the Admiral's daughter did you? Just ask RR what happened to him when he tangled with 'Da Boss'.

I pulled that stunt once. I got cheezed off when a destroyer escort turned on a dime and went to warp speed to avoid my three-fish spread, so I blew the tanks and duked it out with him with the deck gun instead. I came dragging back into port with my hull 99% destroyed (wish I had taken a screenshot of it). I imagine the crew on the tender just sank it with a pistol shot to the waterline after the last man left the deck. I told the admiral that he should have seen the other guy's ship if he thought mine was bad. He wasn't amused.

He was upset because he thought you were safe, and was contemplating having you take him out on your next patrol...

During my last patrol I got so badly trashed any atempt to dive would have resulted in a one way trip to Davy Jones. And with no ammo of any sort left I was left to rely on prayers, then finally when entering Pearl Harbor after my tiresom trip back home I got this message...

"As you pull into port, the mechanics are already on the dock scratching their heads in amazement that you managed to float home. You expected the Admilar to be a little miffed at the loss of his sub, but he so far he's just grunted as he signed off the requisition order to put you in a new one. At least your previous record counted for something. The question now it whether or not you should quit while you're ahead. Resign your commiossion and End your military career on a high note?"
Yes / No

So I got a "new" sub and Im still making my best to sick them japs!

Cheers ^^
