Yep, EA Sports has once again monopolised the American Football game market by signing the rights to official NFL content yet again. Until 2012.

If last years Madden was any indication as to the direction this franchise is going, it looks like you'll be better off playing your old copy of Tom Landry's Pro Football on DOS. :shifty:

Made some great improvements to get their hands into the candy jar that is next-gen consoles, but us PC users are stiffed again.

Lets compare some 07/08 Screenshots on the PC version of Madden, shall we?

Madden 07:

Madden 08

Hmm. :hmm: See an improvement there? Worth your $60/£45?

Infact, here's Madden 06:

:hmm::hmm:

Compare that, to the final game ESPN Games brought out with NFL licenses, ESPN NFL 2k5:

They seem to be putting all of their efforts into the console versions :nope: The PC versions seem to be an afterthought.

I loved ESPN 2k5 because it made you feel like you were in the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, it was Sunday night, you saw clips of the fans piling in and getting pumped up, and the commentators gave you a rundown before the game.

You actually had Chris Berman in the ESPN studio for pre-game, halftime and post-game analysis, with video clips of stuff you actually did and stat breakdowns, just like a real broadcast.

What do you get with Madden? Madden and Michaels. And an NFL ticker.

No thanks :nope:

That problem is pretty much for all the EA Sports titles when it comes to pc, in fact there has been very little new content for any of them in a couple of years now. They still keep porting the older console versions to pc rather then the xbox 360 or ps3 versions.

Unfortunatly this problem is not limited to EA either as alot of other game companies like to put out crappy pc ports of console games, where they dont even fix the controler setup to work with pc native controls (ie mouse and keyboard vs joypad). Alot of ports are from older generation consoles, and often bug ridden to boot. Not to mention completely unsupported as far as patches. Though this doesnt stop these companies from releasing them at full price.

Yeah, it's to bad, I enjoy sports games, but don't plan on getting a 360 or PS3 anytime soon. But I may be getting a Wii for the kids before year's end, so I guess I could use it. I have played some sports related games with it, it's actually pretty cool with the various motion related stuff.

I love the hockey, but my thumbs get too sore:dead: I like playing the international hockey more than the nhl.

They all look almost exactly the same, except for the grass.

I played Madden 05 or 06, not sure. When I bought 06 or 07 and noticed not much had changed, except for a cool new QB aiming system, I gave up buying the next version.

They did the same thing to NASCAR.

After you buy one sports game, why do you need/want the next year edition? I mean, the game changes even less than a FPS does.

All they tend to do is to tweak the team rosters to keep up with last seasons transfers and add some GUI mods to make some things easier, although in some cases they botch the job and actually make it harder once you learned last years moves.

As always the gaming industry is about making money and one sure way to do that is to make last years version obselete so you can sell them the same old content over again.
