How realistic is it to refit and go back out. instead of ending a patrol? Ive done it twice, but I felt like it was justified (trying to play realisticly). In both cases FOX transmissions had ordered all avail forces to report to certain areas because of threat of invasion. Once to defend Java and once to the Coral Sea.

Also kinda related, why are sub tenders in the game if they don't come out and resupply you? How did they function in the real world? Did they just tie up at Pearl and Midway and stay there and you go to them for stuff or did they make "house calls"?

Just curious, thanks guys.

I don't know how often mid-patrol resupply would have been, but suspect it was rare.

As far as the sub tenders, they never came out to you, you always go them. They were a rapid and convenient way to set up forward bases as territory was taken from the Japanese (and they could get out of the way if trouble returned to the area - beats loosing the investment in a land-based base). Typically, as islands were taken and occupied, a sub-tender would anchor nearby to provide a base closer to the action, thus saving you from an even longer trip back to a major fleet base.

They did not deliver, however, you have to pick up your order :D

I've stopped by the tender at Johnson Island a couple of times, very handy. As stated, I had to go to him.

Where are the tenders located in the game? Are they anywhere other than the friendly naval bases shown on the game map?

Yup, they will be marked with an anchor symbol aka an ordinary base. Instead of shore facilities though, you will find an anchored ship tender there.

It won't have the name of a port next to it on the map, which will be a dead give-away that it's a tender. Tender locations will keep popping up as the war progresses... at least with RSRDC. I mainly use them to get a fuel boost leaving Freemantle to extend my time on station in the patrol area.

Sinky,

As far as your realism question, I don't think it was all that uncommon to refit during patrol, at least towards the end of the war when there were bases closer to the action than Pearl and Midway etc... They called them "Double Barrel" patrols. Hope this helps.
