View Full Version : Target map: using the green line

I understand that the green line shows the fish spread. However, where to place it in relation to the target? I frequently mis-judge where to place it and miss the target. The fish goes either in front of the target or behind it. The latter frequently happens when I put the green line on the target. Regardless of the line position, I always set the torp speed to high.

TIA!

If you're targeting by eye (deflection shooting) using the green torpedo path line alone, you'll do better by observing this note.

If you have the bearing indicator ring installed, if your intended target is just outside that 1500 ring you want to lead the target by 8 to 10 degrees depending on your torp, its speed capability, and your speed.

If your intended target is anywhere inside that 1500 bearing ring, you can usually lead the target by 5 degrees or less depending on distances.

As Snuffy said, the green line is the point in the future when your target's and torpedo's path will intersect if you fired at that moment. Ideally it should be a near 90 degree intersection, but doesn't HAVE to be. Early in the war some small error is preferable.

It's always best to start playing SH4 with Manual Targeting OFF and use the periscope to lock on the target and see how the solution is computed (and how the green line is positioned in relation to the target's course).
