Using TM 1.7.6, I've just started my first patrol from Pearl. It's May, 1942 and sunrise is at around 10 am, sunset is around 10pm. Is this normal?

You have presumably moved west some way from Pearl and are now approaching Japan. This is normal. It happens because the Earth is round and this is modelled into the game.

You can use this fact to conduct real navigation.

If on the other hand you mean to say that these are the sunset and sunrise times AT Pearl, before you have left the harbour, then this is not normal

Yeah, but 10 am?!? Or are you saying it's not really 10 a.m, it's some king of date line thing?

This never happens when I patrol in the same latitudes when I've sailed from Brisbane or Freemantle.

That's because when you sail from Brisbane or Fremantle you're mostly heading north and remaining in, or parallel to the same time zone as your base. When you leave Pearl, you steam west, crossing about 5 time zones and to make things worse you cross the international date line which I believe has had a few bugs in the past.

the clock onboard will stay at Pearl time ( AHST - Alaska-Hawaii Standard Time )

The clock statys set to the port of your departure. Hold the mouse over the clock and the mouseover text to the left will clear things up a bit.
