I'm sure it applies to piracy in general. :yep:

I have not seen it, but it sounds likr that might fall under fair use.

Yeah, as that is not the full release. But some rights holders are more jumpy than others, i got my Youtube account banned for uploading a 20 second crash from Formula 1.:damn:

Thats so dumb and yet you can see some jerk lying down on a railway line as a fast moving train goes over him.

Yea real smart move by YouTube. :damn:

Was the F-1 thing because it was a crash, or because it was copywrited material?

Probably not, because borrowing a few scenes from a movie to make a spoof is fairly harmless. Loading up a marketed product and giving it away for free is definitely against the law.

A friend of mine designs tabletop miniatures wargames for a living, and when some of his stuff appeared on the web for free he sued them. When they complained that "the entire community should have this for free", the replied that

1) That was his decision to make, not theirs, and

2) A lawsuit in this case was mandatory, because if he didn't take action it constitutes tacit agreement, and he would forfeit his copywrite.

Putting up a copywrited movie in that fashion will without fail bring a lawsuit down on the heads of the site owners, and they will without fail lose.

It was Kubicas über-crash from Montreal last year, so it was not graphic or anything. I received a notice that FOM (Formula One Management) had issued a complaint, and I lost all the Silent Hunter 3 vids as well (lost the originals in a format-disaster).

FOM even remove private footage from races.:rotfl:The funny part is that it is illegal to upload even short events from races, and at the same time impossible buy races or footage.

Stage6 is being sued at the moment, by Universal I believe, because of vids like the one Kapitan is linking to. Stage6 is a beta-site from DivX, with no limitation of length and size of files, and you can download as well as stream. I guess they are having a hard time controlling the content. Its a shame, because if it goes away there is no place to upload high res game-videoes.

Well, this actually isn't piracy. If he didn't upload it, then he cannot be at fault. We are just viewers of the content, not the uploaders.

And if SubSim does have a problem with this, then they might want to delete all the YouTube links. I've got several 5-second family guy clips, Cthulhu clips (artwork copyright), and music clips that I've posted on the forums.

Seriously, this copyright BS is getting out of hand. Two weeks ago, there was a 2-second clip from Family Guy on YouTube. All it consisted of was Peter with Brian taped to his face saying, "Mustache fart!" then a knock at the door. A week later: "This content has been removed due to a copyright claim by Cartoon Network, Inc." Honestly, people, do we really want to look like a copyright SS troop, hell bent on removing even the smallest of violations?

I mean really...

I agree, but in this case its the entire Das Boot, from start to finish. Why buy it if you can watch whenever you want in full screen streaming?

I've got three versions of it, and I'd much prefer to have it on DVD and watch it when I want without waiting, in high resolution, than watch it online.

Sometimes watching something online persuades someone to buy it :yep:

I think that's the idea generally, and while I personally support it...

...probably the copyright holders don't :-?

I'd be really careful with things like that, to be honest. I'm not sure how Stage6 operates. It's actually perfectly plausible that a site of this kind could have a license to show whatever they want from a major movie company because they can pay for the license with ad revenue, but I somehow doubt stage6 has this sort of license. So... it's definitely on the wrong side of the grey area in my book. Not that I'm against it personally, but I think it's not particularly acceptable on subsim.

There are various sites like this that have full length films on them as well as other stuff.

So I am amazed many are still working.

Indeed. You know the full Hell's Angels movie has been uploaded to YouTube?

Unfortunately, it's been removed (despite the fact that it's 78 years old... facist bastards).
