WHo would have thought? I always wondered what would happen if a Bald Eagle hit the water or tried to grab a fish that was haevier than they could leave the water with! Seems they can swim!

When we were sight-seeing in Alaska, one of our guides said that it is common for Bald Eagles to drown trying to pick up a fish too heavy. Pretty much the fish needs to be under 6 pounds. I guess Baldies don't have a lot of lift :)
I have seen birds do this with small fish just out of laziness when they are near the
shore.
Young birds do it a lot as well if they misjudge the catch as it is very difficult to
takeoff if you landed in water without webbed feet.
Wow, got the fish too eh
He's a pretty good swimmer, I'm surprised to say. I think my next sub emblem should be a swimming eagle
