At last I sunk an enemy sub + BF1942??

Half way through the war and ive only just spotted my first enemy sub, a lovely looking US Gato class patrolling in the middle of the Bay of Biscay (Thankyou GWX2). Sunk it with a spread of 4 torpedos (2hits).

Watching it slowly sink i noticed something familiar, its the US sub taken straight from Battlefield 1942.

Ahh, seeing it brought back many happy memories, in fact i have an urge to re-install BF1942, even 6 years after release is a very enjoyable game, although the subs are probably the weakest bit!

i sunk some s-classes that where sailing in convoys but havent crossed a gato class yet.
im a big fan of bf1942 and i still play it with the FH mod, im not really sure but you could have a point on that sub. it is a look-a-like, but wouldnt a bf1942 sub be licensed?

Im pretty sure its the same sub anyway (the one in battlefield has steps at the rear of the tower though)

I've only sunk 2 S-Class boats, both in convoys. Didn't find them worth a torpedo, so I just got behind them, surfaced (after it was safe to do so of course) and shelled them. 3 hits sunk the first one, and the second one took 5. Haven't survived long enough into the war for US to participate...:shifty:

Yep, that the same model alright.. I never knew it was from BF 1942....
The stair case and railings are clearly based on a gato thats been kitted out for tourists and visitors, very stoopid mistake on the part of the modeller.

Which mission is this? I have BF1942, and I just have never seen it. Well, maybe because I always played the Berlin map, but I should have it somewhere, so I want to look...

Carotio: Its the battle of midway map (multiplayer version), you cant get subs in single player for some reason.

Ahhh... so that's why I have never seen one... LOL
I have only played BF42 MP one time.

So if playing that map in MP, can you control this uboat and shoot torpedos?
I mean in BF one can jump into a plane and fly away, so I presume the same for the uboat...

There is no need to guess. From the beginning, it was clearly told in the original thread that the sub is from Battlefield 1942:

The 3D model was modified somewhat though. It was also indicated that Balao-class comes with textures made by Seeadler.

Yes, you can. If you play BF1942 in singleplayer or coop mode, you may also want to look at the Battlegroup42 mod. It is a big mod with many nice features including more than 50 new maps that can be played in singleplayer mode, new weapons, vehicles and you can use the subs in singleplayer there.

i dont think you can climb vertical ladders on BF1942, i havent played in a while so i could be mistaken.
