I have just removed the game from my system. After years of enjoying it and the mods, it gave up on me !
Suddenly, without my making any changes to the system, my crew voices were gone. I played with the options, checked my sound system and pulled some hair out.
I called Ubisoft after re-installing three, THREE times. No mods running, patched up to 1.4 and clean, CLEAN.
Ubisoft told me to update my vid and audio drivers, done, no change.
So, I am off to the Pacific in SH4 which is working fine.
Thanks and happy hunting all!:damn:

:-? Hmmmm.... sorry to hear that. You sure you didn't install any mods that conflicted with SH3? Perhaps you forgot to delete some residual files after the uninstall and consequently had the same problem after re-installing?

How very odd. Still, I wouldn't let a little setback like that turn me away. There has to be a reason, and there has to be a solution. I don't know what they might be, but there has to be one.
Also, calling UBISoft probably wouldn't help anyway. You should have come here first.

Yeah, if they aren't going to make a profit out of it then they're probably not interested unfortunately. I'm sure some of the tech wizzards stalking these radio rooms will be able to help :ping:. Would be a shame to loose a Kaleun to those pesky Yanks in the Pacific!

If you use SH3CMDR and screw around with the time compression, sound issues arise. Some people also have a problem with sound acceleration on their sound card.
Sorry to hear you want to move on. But like Sailor Steve says, something is messing up the works. Therefore there has to be a fix. :yep:

I don't know if this will help, but when I first got SHIII, it wouldn't run at all. I went back and forth with UBI about it for weeks. Finally I dropped my video resolution down and SHIII ran fine. Then when I put the video resolution back up, it kept running fine. Try lowering the video resolution for the game as well and see if that helps. It seemed to "kick start" my game and once it was running, I was able to get the video resolution back up to where it was.

After all those encouraging replies, I guess I could give it a new go.
As I said, three installs didn't help. I had been using SH3CMDR but not on those last two tries.
I do admit that I didn't actually delete files, just used the 'repair' and patch routine. There may have been some bad old stuff left behind.
Thanks guys, the captain is back on the bridge. Just because the diesels won't start, the batteries are exhausted, and the food has gone bad - no reason to abandon ship. We shall overcome.
I will report back if the radio still works.

ALL HANDS...PAY ATTENTION!
JSGME mod enabler will not, repeat WILL NOT remove the latest GWX from the game.
I had removed all mods with the enabler some weeks back, and thought I had a mod free version. Even though I did a complete uninstall of the game, even deleting the folders, when I installed the disk today to install my option to repair or remove was offered.
I chose remove and saw a large number of files being removed, from where I do not know. I checked and the SH3 folders were not present. Where it found those files I do not know, but suspect GWX had them somewhere.
Following this ghost removal, I reinstalled SH3 and had the sound back.
I checked my program list in control panel/Add Remove but did not see any GWX references, so I think I know what happened.
I uninstalled GWX incorrectly. Question is, where did they put all those files???
I shall restart my career, this time totally without Grey Wolves mod.:hmm:  :nope:

Funny. I haven't played SH3 for about 3 months now and am itching to get back on patrol. :)

The GWX files will more than likely have been installed to C:ProgramFiles but based within the SH3 files.
In future you might want to use the game disc to perform the uninstall operation

You may be back....I did not like Sh4 nearly as much as I did SH3. For one, it beats the crap out of my computer to run it
