Check the "auto-reload" button to see if it is on. It is under "Sub Management" the one that looks like a clipboard. The button has a torpedo on it. I know one person keeps that turned off because he wants to pick the torpedos that get loaded because he has two differnt kinds that he uses. So he can manually drag and drop the torps he wants. For example if you wanted to have electric and steam, and had a case where you didn't want to leave a trail of bubbles, you could load an electric. I think that is right but I'm new at this game. But check that button to make sure it's on, or they won't reload, I know that part is right. The other comments from sturmer are excellent too. If you are "rig for silent running" they won't load either, makes too much noise.
I also want to welcome you aboard. And keep an eye out for DavyJonesFootLocker, he will give you tests and if you fail you walk the plank....submerged!! Aye, a mean ole cuss he be.

Is this loading from reserves after firing, or is this loading after a refit when you're out? In the latter case, you have to manually drag one torpedo from reserve into a tube, even if you have auto-reloading turned on; this will trigger it to automatically load all the others.

See what I said, I told you to keep an eye out for DJFL, but nOOOOOO, you had to wear that silly eye patch so you look like a pirate.:arrgh!: Now he's gunna steal your lunch money. Forget about that new video card. Story is he sails out of Sing-Sing.

Hope you got another $100, cause DavyJonesFootLocker will have a better answer than me, I have only been playing a little while. One thing I was told, can't remember where the thread was but I think it was Quillan that made the comment (If you did Quillan I thank you-- great help ended a lot of frustration with the game, if it wasn't I apologize to whoever did make the comment). If you use time compression when the destroyers are around they will be all over you like flys on honey. I have tried it both ways and with my limited testing I say it's absolutly true. So, don't try to get away using time compression. It's almost like they did it on purpose so it's not a shoot um up arcade game. I personally like it, it forces me to try different tactics, some work some don't. Just remember on time compression, your boat is still only doing Ahead 1/3, it just seems to go faster. Also, one boat will speed toward where they think you are and drop some cans hoping it will spook you, while one or two more sit and listen for you to "make a move". Watch on the external camera for a while so you can learn how they operate, seems like cheating I know but I never skippered a sub or a destroyer, so I need to learn how they operate too. After a while you will learn how to avoid them just by watching on the map where they go. Keep the map zoomed in so you can tell where they are and make a lot of turns. Sometimes you can tell they are searching so I will even go where they just DCed because they won't think I'm there, they will be looking somewhere else. And all the noise makes it hard to hear me, plus being behind him.
I had one time where they had located me and I have flooding so I had no choice so I came up to about 90ft. They after he made his run (missed this time) I got constant readings on his location. and discoverd a lot of time they circle around behind you for another run, so I fired three spaced torpedos trying to catch him while he was behind me and it worked. One less to worry about. A second was coming around in front so I tryed to time it right and pop up to the surface and got him. The third decided he didn't want to play any more and left. Not the best idea, but I had no choice because of hull damage, I would have sunk if I didn't do something. Like they say "go down fighting." And as soon as your on the surface man the deck gun and All Ahead Flank. You can't outrun them but if the only choice is that or sinking, give it a try. That time I was lucky. Other will correct me if I'm wrong but I think the boat does around 9 Knots submerged and about 15 on the surface? That's at Flank which is too noisy if they haven't found you. You can get away with bursts of Flank while depth charges are exploding but I don't know about in expert mode, I haven't got there yet.
Yes, it was Quillan, at least the one I read, here is his quote:
First, never use time compression when near the enemy. In time compression, the computer takes shortcuts, including detection check shortcuts. Boats that will never see you will spot you under TC. In rough seas at night merchant ships will spot a torpedo wake if you use time compression to cut the wait time to impact. Don't use it.
Second, the AI warships seem to be able to automatically detect you anytime they get withing 300 or 400 yards of you, no matter what. Keep your distance at least 500 yards away from any warship.
I hope you don't mind me quoting you Quillan, if you do please let me know and I won't do it!!!!
Well, I'm sorry for the long winded explanation, it is from my very limited experience!!
Oh and one last thing, don't run into the ship you just sank, it makes LOTS of noise, they forgot to tell me this, when I asked for help.

One thing you should know. I was totally surrounded by escorting DDs and subchasers but was not detected 'cause I was silent and deep. But I was going 1 knot speed so I activated the sonar to report nearest warship contact every few minutes while I TC'ed slightly until I was out of harm's way. If any of the dds moved close to me via the reports I'd come out of TC.
Peabody you failed Driver's Ed or what? No wonder you hit a sinking ship.:rotfl:

Quote all you like, Peabody. Or just pass the info on without quoting; I'm not here to get credit for it.

Well, if they would put windows in these things!!! He learned not to take my parking spot!!!
BTW, just a stupid question-would the periscope work underwater? I don't mean in the game, I mean in RL.

I wouldn't know never was on a sub. I suppose it's possible.
