View Full Version : TC & Fatigue Problem
Hi
Since I've started using GWX 2.0, I've noticed that TC is so slow it makes the game too slow to enjoy. I spend ages waiting for the boat to get out of the Kiel Canal then it only speeds up once imn out in the ocean. Near land the game really crawls. Does anyone know a way to speed the TC up or make it smoother? Also does anyone know a good fatigue to use, I used Rub x1 as it gave a nice drop in fatigue over long period but only problem was that crewmen didnt recover in quarters. Is there a way to make crewmen recover in their quarters when using Rub x1 Fatigue Config? All answers appreciated as Im now at the point of packing it in and playing a smoother game. I have changed my hardware from an AMD XP Athlon to a Dual Core Athlon running at 1.6 Ghz and an 8600GT Nvidia Card. Surely game should run faster or is it the upgrade from GWX 1.03?
Thanks

High TC might be exactly what causes the lag. Its a known issue that near land your fps drops significantly. If you can count the frames then its time to lower the TC. You ll go smoother and actually faster than with high TC and low fps. I m afraid I don't have a golden recipe right now except hardware upgrade.

Use SH3 Commander and disable all fatigue.
SH3 does a terrible job of simulating any form of realistic "shift change" or "rotation" between crew members resting and working.
for me... i got so tired of micromanaging my crew that this was the only way to go.
in real life you have a rotation where one watch sleeps while the other goes on duty. SH4 does this job almost perfectly... SH3 does not. I would think that most u-boat crews could stand a month at sea without experiencing a great deal of fatigue to the point that the boat can no longer function.
SH3 commander's no fatigue option is one of the best options of the program.

But what's wrong w/ the GWX 8 hour fatigue model? I'm using it now and it seems to work OK - I'm on my 2nd patrol and the crew seems to hold up pretty well when assigned to an 8hr(ish) rotation...

Goldenrivet gave you your answer with the no fatigue option. If your game is dragging near ports your equipment( computer) needs an upgrade in memory or your processor is too slow or your video card isn't what it used to be.....either/or the lite harbor traffic will help immensly but you will miss some gr8 ships taking that route.

nothing is wrong with it...
but you still have to micromanage your crew. and every 8 hours the captain didnt delegate a new shift or "watch"... IRL everyone knows their rotation and sticks to it... this is not the case in SH3 , therefore in SH3 you must hold every sailors hand and make sure he is in the right place at the right time and i simply dont enjoy that apsect of the game.
this is one area where SH4 outshines SH3 by a wide margin -crew management.

Oh yeah, entirely true Rivet... it's just that I haven't gotten bored w/ it myself... yet ;)
I wonder if the bugger could be automated somehow, and I don't mean turning it off entirely... so maybe a mod or something that reminds you of the shift change approaching and then does it for you if you OK the message box away?
Well I don't know really. Might work, might not; if Mr. Murphy is to believe the box will always jump up when you're about to launch an eel or something
Thanks everyone your replies are appreciated.
Thing is, I realise that things slow down near land etc but since upgrading my hardware and playing GWX 2.0 and SH3Cmdr 2.7 along with few other mods that the gamne has really slowed down. Even when im well clear of land at 1024 or 2048 TC, the view on the bridge is 1 fps and takes about 1 to 2 seconds to change, Never remember having this problem before. I did mess around with my memory timings and made them slighty slower to gain a more stable machine. Perhaps this has affected the fps? I upgraded my G.Card from 6600GT to an 8600GT. Cant understand why it would be the graphics. Gonna try turning down Anti Alaising or whatever its called. Its at x4 at the momment. As for fatigue Im not sure about turning it off completely. I quite liked rotating the crew now and again. I've got some values i might try and edit to see if it works. Thanks again evr1

You have set TC to 1024 from the Bridge View? If that is correct then I suspect that you will see a "slide show", I doubt that any PC is capable of rendering anything at all at that High a TC.
When I use TC of 1024 it is usually from the Map only and seldom if at all. TC of 512 is more the norm for my style of play; again only from the Nav Map.
As for fatigue model I use No Fatique, I got tired of managing my crew, a true bore after the first patrol. I get irritated enough about having to drag the WO up to the bridge much less move the crew around.
Happy Hunting!

I remember reading somewhere where you can change the maximum TC for certain events i.e. close to land. When I was playing about 6 months ago I did it, but I cannot remember how to do it now. Does anyone know where I could adjust that setting?
yes Bertockamus, this can be set from SH3 Cmdr, But the max setting is not the problem. I have it set to allow 4096 near land etc, and i realise that it would not be able to draw scenes that quick on the bridge but my problem is still from the map view. Thanks anyway:up:

Is there another way to change it? I've never loaded SH3 Commander however I have changed the TC maximums.

I set my close to land TC at 32 with SH3 Cmdr. Something strange happens in diagonals through the canal. I cannot go further than TC32 going out of Kiel, but when coming back I can do 256.
As for crew fatigue, I also set it to No fatigue. The idea is good but poorly implemented. Will have to check out how it's done in SH4.
In GWX 2.0 I can go TC 32 near land no problem

IIRC the max TC in 3d view setting controls the tc setting above which fatigue doesn't change. this setting may influence other things as well
So if you have your max 3d TC set to 1024, then at this TC there is possibly a lot more happening than if you had left the max 3d Tc set to default.
High TC will bring a fast cpu to its knees, particuarly near a harbour with lots of ships. Rendering stuff in 3d AND updating the game world at high TC is just too much... ubi undoubtably found this, and thats why they put this setting in.
I have an athlon 2000+, and near harbours the game (on map view) becomes a slideshow for me at anything more than 128x
