Now playing through June, 1942 in the Celebes Sea. All ammo expended with 5 ships under my belt and a fighter shot down. So I decided to TC and head home. I got a merchant sighting and decided to ignore it. TC again. All off a sudden BANG! Damage to hull and a whole lot of injured crew. Apparently the merchant was a Large Tanker with a deck gun had speeded up behind and shot me. The bloody ship was hunting me down! No kidding! He was moving at high speed in a zig-zag search pattern. Well I submerged fast. First time I ever encountered an aggressive merchie. How am I gonna play this down back at base?

Your guy aboard the tanker must have been a wannabe Yamato skipper!

"There was a destroyer hiding behind it! Yeah, that's the ticket!"

 Or maybe I can say that one of the crew had too many cans of beans and the resultant explosion did the damage and injury? Would that stick?:rotfl:Do you know how much money I had to bribe my crew not to tell the truth?

Medium freighter tried to chase me down and ram me in the South China Sea last patrol. Every turn he tried to cut me off, sometimes violently turning to get on a collision course with me. Ended up sinking him with the deck gun after a stern chase...him chasing me, mind.:yep:

Yes, some merchies are crazy. First time I encounted it, the bugger made a B-line right at me:o. I was in full back emergency blasting away with my cannon!!! We were nose to nose full bore!! I did finally sink the possessed vessel.

Whew! Glad to know I'm not alone in this crazy encounter. Now I can call Father Ignatius and tell him don't bother with the exorcism.

In every herd of cows, there's gotta be the occassional MAD COW! Sounds like a case of Mad Scow Disease to me. ;)

It's happened to me as well. Whenever I'm about to start stabbing at the "+" key repeatedly after dropping out of TC for a contact report, I stop, think, and remember that high TC combined with ignoring contacts often has a bad ending!:dead:
