on my 9th patrol, west of Freetown i encountered a convoy. I headed straight for it and at periscope depth shot at and sank a large tanker and a large cargo. I had used up my stern torpedo and didnt want to wait to reload so i went to turn so i could use a bow shot on another large tanker. I'm about halfway through the turn when i get hit broadside by a merchant. So thanks to Bernard causing us to get hit, i have to repair flooding and damage, and escape 3 escorts that have now discovered where i am. I went through about 30 minutes of depth charges with none of them doing any damage, until they got about 5 or 6 good perfect depth charges right on my bow. Heavy flooding, sinking, and at 29% hull integrity i soon got crushed by the pressure. If Bernard had only been more careful my beautiful U-73 would still be here.:damn:

Why is it that no one finds Bernard in his crew until something goes really wrong???:hmm:
Anyways, sorry to hear that! We'll fire some shells from our deck gun to remember U-73 (if weather permits of course:D )

I nearly had that happen to me with a convoy yesterday. I get so engrossed in the "hunt" that I end up totally forgetting how close to enemy ships I am. I nearly collided with a small merchant in a convoy yesterday. Thankfully I was only moving at 2 knots, so stopping the boat was a piece of cake.
Had I not noticed though....well.....:know:

It's the kaptains responsibility to scan through the scope to check for danger. You can't just rely on sonar either. Some DD may lie in wait, at dead stop, waiting for you to make a mistake.
Hard to blame this on Bernard, unless your letting him use the scope.......Kapt.
