View Full Version : OK, I give up......
Been playing a couple months now and mostly enjoying but I keep having the game go into double speed (including all the audio) while remaining at 1x ??!!! It's just too bizarre for words. usually happens after an explosion or somesuch.... Any ideas from the experts out there?

Not an expert but, never have had this happen, I have been playing since 1.0. Are you running any mods? Also, what are your system specs?

Sounds like you have hardware/driver problems, an out of control mod, or you have a bad install. Your description and information on your machine is not enough to make an educated guess. As is typical we end up playing 50 questions with this type of stuff. You are the 1st person I've read with the game runing faster than set, so should be interesting. Are you sure you didn't tap the numpad + key?

That's a brand new problem, which is a sign of either tapping the plus key without knowing it (easy enough to check out) or a corrupted file somewhere. Just to set your mind at ease, I'd recommend a complete reinstall. You can do it without losing any custom settings or save games.
First, just move your mods directory to your desktop for safe keeping. Then uninstall SH4 using Add/Remove Programs. You will get an option to save all save game data. Do it.
Now, reinstall SH4 and patch 1.4 from scratch. Install JSGME and run it once to make an empty mods directory. Copy all the mods from your desktop mods directory into the new mods directory in the SH4 folder. Delete the desktop mods directory. Reinstall all the mods with JSGME. Play as if nothing had ever changed, except hopefully your problem will be gone.
If I left anything out, somebody please correct me!

While a clean reinstall is usually a great idea when unknown problems like this come up - I would say remap the time compression key to something besides the + key first to see if that saves you the problem.

Haven't had the audio speed up before, but have went up to the bridge to see the clouds flying by really fast. Looked like the start-up movie. Checked my time settings and everything was ok. The sea was really choppy too, so I just pretended I was skirting the outter edges of a typhoon :D

Reduce your audio acceleration in your device manager. Might be the cause.

No one suggested a bad keyboard numpad "+" key?
If you have a quirk in the game that no one else has, welcome to the club. I've never seen a game with such breadth of quirkiness.
