Hi all

I'm new to SH$ (played SH3 plenty) and I'd like to know firstly how to complete a patrol objective.... I circle round and round the objective for over 24 hours and nothing's happening. How much time must elapse?

Secondly in over 3 patrols I haven't had a spot of bad weather at all! I get big sea states very occasionally, absolutely no rain, very little fog. Have I accidentally turned off a "Realistic Weather" option or something? I don't think so....

Take a look at this thread for the answer to your first question. I've found that some of the values in that thread are inaccurate (100nm should be 50nm in most cases).

It seems to me that the weather is perfect until around October. Then it's hurricane season. I get solid downpours, or at the very least overcast skies for several patrols straight. Soon after it clears up though.

The rain really helps you sneak up on ships at night! Even though you can't really see a thing...

Traal syndrome. If you can't see it, it can't see you.

Fortunately, torpedos don't have eyes in the first place.

Only problem I have with the rainy weather is my sometimes stupid bridge watch as they do not always wear rain gear. :stare: Super AI ya know.:roll:

When you see this hit Ctrl-W, and you will see it says "Precipitation: None." Sometimes you get the opposite, guys in rain gear when its not raining.

For some strange reason the game and graphics engine sometimes get confused about whether its actually raining or not.

I've noticed on more than one occasion that the mission doesnt issue the completed text in the log file and the icon doesnt change until i zoom out from my current map view then the icon changes colour from orange to grey and the mission completed shows. i usually stay well within range of the point of interest so i'm putting this one down to a bit of a bug.

Usually happens when you reload a saved game.

Either that, or my crew is investing heavily on drugs :rotfl:

Be sure to check your mission objectives too.. my first patrol was to sail to an area and patrol it for 48 hours (not 24) and then once done that they sent me to another quad for a 96 hour patrol.. it isn't always necissarily a 24 patrol :)

I have spent a lot of time sailing the mighty Pacific and many rainstorms last 10-20 minutes... no joke. The world will be ending one minute, and sunny / warm the next.

the tradewinds will annihilate most large storm cells.

Odds are it *is* storming frequently on your patrol, you're just missing it.

I don't get weather reports. Is this a feature of a MOD? I only run ROW, RSRDC. I think maybe I read somewhere that Wx reports are part of TM??

Doolittle81: yes, that is correct. It's incorporated in TMaru. Captain Cox also used it in his Search Pattern Mod (custom HUD that added a couple more search patterns, weather report, and a few other things I don't remember right now), that's how I got it.
The easiest way to get a Weather Report is assign a keyboard shortcut. Use the SH4 Keyboard Config app (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=117517) and assign any key you like - or, open up commands.cfg from TMaru and copy over this text

[Cmd261]
Name=Report_weather
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F250006
Key0=0x57,c,"Ctrl+W" to your own commands.cfg file to assign Ctrl+W as your Report Weather shortcut.
