Well im done with the academy and off on my first run.So far everything is going smooth, crew is happy as a clam i guess,i havent heard any complaints.Been out for about 24 hours and everyones pretty much rested upo contacts yet except friendlys so thats good i guess but wanting to get a kill whicj im sure will come soon enough. The biggest problem i have is identifying ships, takes me a while to find them in the manual to make a comparison but that i guess will come with time.Other than that the gane is totally awesome, great way to unwind and suck down some brews.
Now the important question,i downloaded the sim off line, what downloads do i need ,i wantthe best game i dan play,so anything that will make it the most realistic is what im looking for.

go with GWX it is by far the best choice of mods, as well as SH3 Commander. glad you are enjoying the game:up:

Welcome, Kaleun, and once you're bitten by the SHIII bug you'll never look back!
I recommend getting a little experience with stock SHIII before upgrading, as the upgraded AI can be a nightmare to defeat unless you've got a little experience under your belt. Make sure that you're patched up to version 1.4b (using either GameShadow or the ubi.com website) but be aware that any careers started in stock SHIII can not be continued in GWX.
As for upgrades, to start off with I'd recommend the Grey Wolves Expansion (GWX) 2.0 and Silent Hunter 3 Commander (SH3 Cmdr) 2.7. Both of these are readily available on subsim and will enhance your gaming experience no end. It's also worth getting hold of J Scones Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME) and I believe this comes as part of GWX 2.0. It is a simple mod enabler that makes makes it easy to add or remove mods from SHIII, and if you add them one at a time you'll be able to see if any mods cause adverse effects.
There are various other mods available, such as the Not Your Grandmother's Mod (NYGM) and once you're into it there's a plethora of mods covering everything from changing the way that you sub looks to adding additonal ships that have been modded by individuals and adding realistic smoke from your subs diesel engines when surfaced. Venatore's drive through is another good place to start looking as he has a number of mods both big and small to enhance the SHIII experience. I believe that all of these are stickied on the main SHIII forum in subsim.
Once again welcome, and get ready for caffeine fuelled nights stalking convoys  and annoyed wife/girlfriend asking if you're finally coming to bed!

What I tell everyone to get:*copies/pastes*
Torpedo Damage Final version 2 mod that makes ships look like this:

Get it here  http://hosted.filefront.com/OceanBlue
For a supermod, GWX.
If you want to install the GWX Mod (and who wouldn't want that ?), don't install the one that Gameshadow has. They have an older version than what's current. Get the latest version here:
http://gwx.mysite.orange.co.uk/
I also suggest getting the RealweatherFix2 Mod that seems to help a little with "weather issues" the game gets (Make sure to follow the instructions before installing it)

Also, Don't ship out without Silent Hunter III Commander (If you use GWX, make sure you read the manual part pertaining to SHIII Commander)

A lot of people like the Depth Charge Shake mod. I don't have the link for that handy. I don't use it because it tends to make me seasick but give it a shot and see if you like it.:D
I suggest updating the game to version 1.4 and playing it stock without mods for a little while first so you can REALLY see the difference that these mods and addons make but keep these links handy !!
