Hey everyone,im new to the forum and really want to try this sim.Not new to sims have done many flying sims but want something new and this looks like the ticket.I have a concern and hopefully the expierience in this forum can help.Ive read alot of reviews and the game itself is raved by most, the only concern i have is this copy right deal thats supposedly in the game.Ive read that installing it can mess with some computers,is this the case ?,and if so is it better to buy the sim or download it online?.My comp is well in the requirements so that doesnt bother me but i do play other games online and dont want a problem with them from installing SH3.Will downloading the game online free me from this copyright issue, and no im not looking to make copys if thats what u are thinking,i just dont want to have a problem with my comp, after a days work the last thing i want to do is try to pan out a problem,i just want to come home ,drink a few beers and play a awesome looking sim. Thanks for any info and your time.

Starforce says that all the claims about the software ruining some pieces of hardware (particularly the optics) are bullsh***
However, that's THEIR official opinion, so take it or leave it.
In the short time I've been in this forum, I never EVER heard a complain about SF messing with your rig, nor did that ever happen to me... so I don't think it ever happened to anyone.
That's what I have to say about it.
Welcome aboard dude and I hope you have a lot of fun!

Welcome aboard first of all.

To halfway answer your question, you do not "need" to install GameShadow, or whatever SH3 uses. I purchased SH3 from the store, and when installing, it asks to install GameShadow, I click cancel, because I update manually. The game still runs 100% with nothing stopping it.

This could still be the case with buying it online and downloading it, but I don't have any experience with that.

Good luck!

Hi Taz and welcome aboard!

I don't know where you are from but I bought a recent copy of SH3 in the UK(in Morrisons supermarket for £5) and it doesn't have any protection on it, so there is no CD key to type in and best of all there is NO STARFORCE!!!

Another member here, he may actually be a moderator, called Seth said that he downloaded the game so he had no problems with cd protection either.

Hope this is of some use.

Good hunting Herr Kaleun!:arrgh!:

Welcome Aboard.. you'll love this sim.

Starforce caused me issues when i went to reinstall it when the GWX 2.0 addon came out around Christmas. I have since found out that IF you now download it from Direct2Drive (which is where i bought it back in 2006), it does NOT have starforce in it.. so feel free to purchase & download it from them, download GWX 2.0 and start sinking ships :)

I run a fair system with windows XP and have never had a problem with the copy protection scheme like so many others report to have had. It has not caused a problem with any other of my programs or systems either.

Which method you choose to legally get the game I guess is up to you...I am sure all have their advantages/disadvantages.

Welcome aboard and happy hunting...

Three rules will help you a lot from my digesting the forums...

1. Stay out of the Channel
2. Stay out of harbors/shallow water
3. Be more Aggressive.

And do not forget to tip Bernard on your way into battle.....

I actually find Gameshadow a pretty decent and helpful little program. It keeps all my drivers and a good chunk of my games up to date without me having to check for updates constantly.
If you want to install the GWX Mod (and who wouldn't want that ?), don't install the one that Gameshadow has. They have an older version than what's current. Get the latest version here:

http://gwx.mysite.orange.co.uk/

I also suggest the Torpedo Damage Final version 2.0 mod that makes torpedo and deck gun holes in ships that actually LOOK like torpedo and deck gun holes. Get that here: http://hosted.filefront.com/OceanBlue

I also suggest getting the RealweatherFix2 Mod that seems to help a little with "weather issues" the game gets (Make sure to follow the instructions before installing it)
http://hosted.filefront.com/TeddyBar/

Also, Don't ship out without Silent Hunter III Commander (If you use GWX, make sure you read the manual part pertaining to SHIII Commander)
http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html

I suggest updating the game to version 1.4 and playing it stock without mods for a little while first so you can REALLY see the difference that these mods and addons make but keep these links handy !!

Actually you are incorrect, Blacklight. Gameshadow does indeed have GWX 2.0 available as a single large download.

If you read the fine print you will see... "The Grey Wolves Super Mod is a Freeware Compilation, now in Version 2.0" and "Release Date: 16 Dec, 2007"

;)

It's about time they updated their version. For the LONGEST time they only had the original non-updated version.
I still think getting it from the site I posted is a better option because all the files you need plus the SHIII Commander data update file are all there in the same place.
But installing GWX 2.0 through Gameshadow is easier than downloading multiple files and then running the install. *shrug*:yep:

LOL! Umm yessirrrr. *psst! The site you posted is our home page... where I went to retreive the GameShadow link from the download links section. *;)

Click below me sig. It will take you there.:ping: GameShadow has had the correct version for over six weeks now. Currently, GameShadow is the only location where you can DL all the core GWX 2.0 files in one go from one link.

Simplicity is golden when it comes to user support.:yep:
