View Full Version : Saved Game Crashes

I'm on my 5th war patrol in my campaign and suddenly I can no longer load my saved games. I had been having some issued with CTD's in game so I have been saving quite often during my patrols, in my current patrol I left Pearl, refueled at Midway, passed by Wake, Truk, Palau and into the Celebes sea. I have various saves all along the way. I sunk a couple of ships in the Celebes, saved, moved south and sunk a couple more and saved again and then ended the game and went to bed. Next day when I tried to load my last save it would load for a few minutes and then finally crash with the windows pop up "do you want to send a report" box. I tried several times but no joy. Finally I tried loading the save previous to the last one and it loaded. So I finish up the patrol and head to Freemantle where I refuel/rearm and save again. In fact I made 3 different saves at Freemantle withing one minute, just for insurance (I hoped). But tonight, no joy. Can't get any of those saves to load.

This is the third time I have started this campaign, each time I have some sort of technical issue that makes me restart, I don't want to have to restart again.

Mods I have loaded via JSGME:

1_TMaru_Trigger_Maru_1.7.6
1A_TMaru_Tench_Class
2_TMaru_Sound
maxoptics over TM1.7
New Ships
Warships retextured_install1_3
NSM4 light
FooBor's hi-res Gato - Weathered

Hi,

You have my sympathy. I have exactly the same problem, and without any mods loaded.

Once I have a "small black rectangle" crash to desktop, all my saved games become unreadable, and I have to restart all my careers.

It's hard to put the effort into well prepared "waiting time" for that perfect shot when you're wondering if its all in vain.

It's put me off playing to be honest, until I can afford the downtime of reinstalling XP and SHIV to see if it corrects the problem.

CHeers,
Dave

I would just try re-installing SH4. The next time you do a re-install make sure you copy the install to a directory for safe keeping that way if the install gets hosed you can simply delete and just copy a fresh instance of SH4 into your directory where you play SH4.

Its kind of like insurance. I even change the name of the folder to something like BACKUP_SH4.

You could also try to defrag and scandisk I ran into this issue once and it actually worked.

Thanks for the suggestions, although I have uninstalled and reinstalled SH - and my defrag runs each day.

I'm not going to blame SHIV until I get chance to restore a clean XP build and add SHIV to it.

Thanks all the same though.
