How do you create your own monthly desktop screen calenders?

I would like to have a go at creating a desktop calender using my own photography images. For years I have been using those from SimHQ such as these (http://www.simhq.com/_calendar/calendar.html) but I would now like to try this myself. Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer advice on how to do this? Thanks in advance. :)
