Hi, after some deep sea engagements I feel I want to try some sneaky harbour attacks. Anyone have a nice hint on where I can find some of the heavier ship types anchored? (I'm in january 1942 atm).

Ok, I snuck into Saigon Harbour and got some really big Tankers and Merchants but that was in Dec. 1941. Rabaul is nice but defended by DDs which by the way you have to get past obviously.

Well I've been really fortunate avoiding DD's out at sea by using the thermal layer excessively, it'll be interesting to see how I fare in shallow waters though. I'll probably try Saigon first as it's also the closest to my current position, but is there chance any flat-tops or BB's are around there occasionally/this time in the war?

I've not seen any large naval vessels to speak of. I found cargo ships and a few gunboats. I was luck to have heavy fog on my side as I could move at surface speed. In fact the DD couldn't find me in the soup even when I used my deck gun. Problem was finding the ships in that visibilty. Watch your battery (1/3 speed should get you through). Do not surface in clear daylight or else the shore guns and deck guns on some cargo ships will get you. I did sink an Escort Carrier on its way out of a Borneo Harbour (the name I can't recall) the one on the western coast. Good hunting!

I had a recon mission into Hiroshima. Snuck in on the surface at night through a tiny channel about 200 yards wide (you'll see it to the far North of the approach. Then dived to take my photos.

Found 2 battleships and a 10,000 tonne tanker all moored up.

Decided to sink them to save the airforce the bother of looking at my photos.

I've had pretty good success with RSRDC sitting outside a major harbour and waiting for the ship traffic to come to me, either coming or going. Manuever a bit, sink 'em then move on to the next target which always floats by in time.

You'd think the goofs might use the radio to call for air assistance but I rarely see any.

I've had good hunting in Truk lagoon but getting in and out past all the hunters has been pretty dicey. Almost cut me in two last time in.

I used to have lots of luck raiding the harbors west of Tokyo a ways...found two carriers moored up and let 'em both have it (tough for carriers to sink in shallow water though) Alas, since installing the Trigger Maru mod, and several others, I've been very reluctant to enter most harbors... the last time I tried sneaking up Bungo Suido I ran into a mine. :o So, depending on the mods you're using, sail with caution...

Best of luck,

The 2 ports between Tokyo and the sea are prime targets, so is Truk.
