I've got some questions about removing deck gun (using SH3 Commander). I consider removing it in my career, but don't want to be hasty doing that.

1. Is there any chance of spoiling my campain files by removing the gun?

2. Would it be realistic to remove it in May '41? As far as I remember the U-Boots kept their guns to much later in the war, like '43-'44..?

3. Does removing the gun improve the boat's performnce, like speed under water?

4. Is the gun removed completely, so that I don't have it in my damage & crew cntroll screen too? Or is it flawed in some way? Never tried it before.

Thanks for sharing your experience! :88)

No. Otherwise, ummm, do you think I would have added it as a function? ;)

2. Would it be realistic to remove it in May '41? As far as I remember the U-Boots kept their guns to much later in the war, like '43-'44..?
Remove it when *you* like. Generally, you'd be looking at around 1943, but there are records of Kaleuns removing earlier and later. Be a leader, not a follower, LOL!

3. Does removing the gun improve the boat's performnce, like speed under water?
Nup. No-one has ever been able to tell what difference it would make. IIRC Von Helsching figured out that the difference was negligible. In the absence of hard core data, I chose to leave it alone.

4. Is the gun removed completely, so that I don't have it in my damage & crew cntroll screen too? Or is it flawed in some way? Never tried it before.
Removed completely. If it was flawed in any way, see #1.

Don't forget that you can always get it back again through SH3.

Re performance, here's a thread over at u-boat.net... http://www.uboat.net/forums/read.php?20,65071,65071#msg-65071

Ken Dunn's response is quite informative.

Thanks for quick reply. that makes things clear ike water in Med!

I've read the thread, quite informative indeed. Those guys are real freaks. I wouldn't be surprised seeing a thread about sinking drag affecting the time you have for your prayer. :arrgh!:
