I know the thought of rumbling down the interstate in 55 tonnes of chrome and steel appeals to some of you, so I thought I might go ahead and post some news about the latest and upcoming trucking games on the PC
Firstly, this is the latest in what's probably the longest running franchise, and one of the only proper 18 wheeler games out there:
http://www.americanlonghaul.com/
Fun game, but really needs the help of a couple of mods (that aren't easy to find) for real immersion.

No idea how close this one is to completion, but it still looks rather good:

I'm just hoping there's nothing stupid in it, like points for blowing up cars.

Will be watching this one very closely if they add Britain in

Here's an online haulage firm for use with the 18 WOS games :)

Finding mods for this kind of game may not be as hard as you think.

That site is like the Subsim of truck sims. There is all sorts of info on upcoming releases and a forum. I haven't played a truck sim in a long time, but when I did I went to that site.

To bad it's only a 60 minute demo.
But anything as good as this that I can use my G-25 on works for me.
This sim is to Trucking what flight sims are to flying.:yep:
From a gameplay standpoint it has goals and objectives to accomplish and penaltys to avoid.
And as pointed out theres a slew of mods available.
Not bad for $20.00

I believe that 18 Wheels of Steel was the trucking sim that actually had a few "interesting" surprises in it (Or it may have been another sim).
The UFO flying around when I was driving on a highway in New Mexico caught me completely off guard. :rotfl:
Then there was the random police chase that happend around me somewhere...

I drive an '06 Freightliner XL Classic about 15,000 miles a month and I can tell you, there are stranger things than UFOs out there...
Especially in New Jersey...;)
Think I'll buy 18 Wheels and see how it stacks up to the real thing...

Done a little OTR myself. The best deal is 18 WOS Bundle $29.99.
You get all 4. Separately $80.00. A nice break from Subs and planes.
IMHO it has great gameplay. Objectives , Penaltys, and hell it's fun. :D

That Sucks.:damn: What doe's it do. A person would think by the title it was to drive all over Europe.

It'd be easy to implement it too, just simulate a ferry journey as a timeskip.

I wouldn't recomend that site.:nope: They have a rather stalinistic habit of banning members without warning or reason. You see, I was banned for no reason on july 5, the last thing I was doing was looking at some P-351 W.I.P pictures. And I havn't been able to get back in since.:damn: I've sent then a couple of e-mails to ask why i was banned, but I havn't got an answer back. Like I said,I wouldn't recomend that site. Your'e better off with 3dartpol.http://home.deds.nl/~equality/ (http://home.deds.nl/%7Eequality/)

I DLed the demo for one of these a while back and couldn't get into it. That, however, was before my obession with driving games. Maybe I should re-download, as the only thing I don't like about race games is the closed tracks...and an 18-wheeler would be a much different challenge than a Murcielago...

You can't have a proper big truck thread without someone bringing this baby up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDewUMGHXJY&feature=related (Around 3:25 is where the awesome happens)

Why did anyone ever bother doing any more games after this AWESOME piece of software?

That's not a game but a torture device inflicted upon our enemies!
I've seen that game before on X-Play. I can't help but wonder why the "devs" even bothered, and more importantly who in their right mind would publish it? A pre-schooler could have made a better game. :damn:
I might consider it, but only if this truck is in it:

The Duel truck! I think that was Speilberg's first movie. In the shot where the guy in the car thinks that security car (or whatever company it is) is a cop, the name on the side of the car is actually Speilberg's name spelled backwards.

Duel should be a video game !!! If that snarky bastard passes you, push his damn car out onto the railroad tracks while the train is coming !!!

This might sound dumb, but this is the first I've heard of this kind of sim. Truck driving sims? Sounds like something interesting to use my G25 for. Racing on closed tracks gets old after a while and I've been wanting a more relaxed game to just cruise in.
Kapitan_Phillips, in the first post you mentioned something about a couple of mods for American Long Haul. Care to mention what they are and/or provide a link?
Hey am I the only one who wishes they would make a video game of that old movie 'Death Race 2000'? That movie was a riot.
PS: Wishing for a more realistic car combat game like Twisted Metal, that I can use my G25 with. That would be so great for me. Really it's just that I bought this wheel and I feel like I am limited to regular racing and it's good for nothing else.
