Rubbish dump found floating in Pacific Ocean is twice the size of America (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=512424&in_page_id=1811)
That is going to really send the Greens around the bend. :yep:

Disgusting if this is true..:nope:
Tar pellets, plastic junk, you now find it washed ashore in the most remote places. The problem is far worse than described in the article.

When I still did deep-sea marine biology and ALVIN cruises, one of the most common things seen on the bottom of the ocean (in 1500-4000m depth) was aluminum soda cans, especially coke cans. Most ocean going commercial ships still simply toss all their rubbish over the side, so it has to collect somewhere. Not to mention the renderings of massive drift nets that seem to foul the north Pacific everywhere (I was amazed how often we used to encounter them - they seemed everywhere).
That, and a lot of Pacific rim countries still use barges to dump much of their land based rubbish at sea.

He warned that the rubbish could double in size over the next decade if consumers do not cut back on their use of plastics.
 Or maybe there should be tighter control as to how waste is managed.
Dumping rubbish at sea is so easy as no one cares or should I say they look the other way.

I was watching a show on the History Channel. "We have treated the ocean as both our food locker and our Toilet"
Didn't someone propose collecting this and trying to make a profit through recycling?
Cause seriously, someone's gotta do it. I think a few of the world's governments could get together and pitch some cash for someone to start up an operation like this - given the composition of this, I suspect there would soon be a return.
...that's just speaking pragmatically of course. Really, what I think is that the world's major garbage producers have to go and pick it up now.

It's a crying shame that the most Fantastic and Beautiful resource is used as a GARBAGE DUMP and the big players don't care.

Dang! "Twice the size of America"... why, that's about three times the size of Texas. Quick! HunterICX, warm up the ship, let's get to it, plant a flag, and claim it for Subsim. I'll make you Vice President. Next, we'll declare war on America, quickly surrender, and let the US rebuild us.

I don't think it'll run out that smoothly....they might actually come after us after we've been ousted from power.

Nice idea, but I don't think it'll work as there is no oil there.
