Google Earth:

N 52°17'12" , E 7°58'12", that is in the western area of Osnabrück. The lake in the east is the Rubbenbruchsee.

You see a small airstrip close to where i once lived, EDWO Atterheide. In the south, parallel to the runway, and in the East-Northeast, coming from the street in the north-east, you see a small path. In reality it seems to be much closer to the runway as you figure by the picture. That is a sandy horse path specifically for riders. when you come form that street and move south on that path at the eatsern edge of the runway, you will meet a sign, saying "Horseriders beware landing airplanes" that is because when you sit on a horse and raise your arms into the air, you could touch the gear of a landing airplane with your rider's cap. Also, I saw three times that a horse went into race mode when riding parallel to the strip - and then one plane started it's engine and warmed them up by bringing them to high rpm. That is potentially dangerous, because the only thing separating the horse path from the runway is a thin single wire at the height of a man's knees.

I always considered that layout a bit crazy. Having known a pilot whose plane was stationed there, he confirmed that when approaching from the east and pedestrians present, there was no room for altitude errors whatever.

So when walking on the eastern path, you better look twice if you do not not want a new haircut! :D

If I was going to get beaten to death by a plane, I'd sure as hell pick something a bit more classy than a Cessna Grand Caravan :rotfl:

UK Health and safty inspectors would have a field day,

first of all the issue of high viz jackets hard hats and specail padding and cages in your car and scooter.

Secondly barriers at each end of the road blocking all access when a plane comes into land (like a level crossing).

3rdly shutting it down because the above safty mesures dont work :D

in my flyin days, we called that "failure to maintain terrain separation"

I am assuming this pilot lost his ticket as this is probably a violation of the 500/1000 foot rule LoL

Doubt it Platapus, look how close he is to the runway - you certainly cant come in much steeper, by the looks of things, so he probably had little choice!

Ima gonna go home and load up FSX to have a crack at it myself i think:D
