Two found scuttled in Black sea. Third expected to be found soon.
These were the three survivors of the 3200km journey over land via train and canal, from Kiel to the Romanian Port of Constanta. U-20 was at 24m, with U-23 at 48m, the U-19 is thought to be at a Depth of 300m. Rudolf Ardendt, 85 years (Former Captain of the U-23), helped by supplying a map of where he thought the boat was. U-23 was also commanded by Otto Kretschmer (Silent Otto) during the war.
Excitingly, these boats should be in excellent condition, considering all three were scuttled rather than sunk by enemy action.
Three of their fleet (30th Flotilla) were sunk during actions in the Black Sea.
