I was thinking we have enough peopl flying here to have a little tournament knockout style.
If anyone is interested I'll figure some basic rules out.
Yay, I'm interested.

:hmm:
we could do a 1 vs 1 knockout
there is 1 map that is very suitable for that , its the Island map with 2 islands not far away from eachother , given both players time and distance to get on altitude.
or I could edit a flat map like we use in dogfights and make only 2 bases avaible to pick out. and take out the flaks
what you need to keep in mind are categories
I would suggest following
1.Bi-planes
2.Early war aircraft all the mono fighters till 1940 for example
3.Mid war aircraft till 1941-1943
4.Late War aircraft till 1944-1945
5.Jets that REALLY flew in the war and post-war(HE162, ME262A1 and A2, MIG9, YP80) no Rocketcrafts (BI6 and ME163) or fantasy planes like the Heinkel lerche, later variants of the HE162.
Rules must be simple:
*Each player can only take ONE aircraft for each category.
so this eliminates that players can switch to gain easy advantage over an enemy aircraft.
*100%Realism: a bugger for spectators but it makes the fighting last longer
*A bit of honour : if a player is beaten up bad and the aircraft is unflyable give him time to bail out. the player who is given up must enable his nav lights and bail out.
I wonder how many people we have, for 2 things:
1st of all we can do 2 ways of scoring
1st: if you get shot down by a enemy contestant You're OUT! of the league
or
2nd: you will have to face everyone in a 1vs1 the ones with the less Victories is out, and this keeps going till the finals.
and we can do another Dogfight knock out with more tactics:
like 2 vs 2 Wingmen co-op
use the real tactics and work together to achieve victory
ps. Xabba, its a brilliant Idea I had what I suggest above a long time in my head, we really must get this thing started.

What I'd like to see is the dogfights carried out with both having the same plane. That would eliminate the plane specific advantages and would only leave it up to the actual player skill to make the kill.
EDIT: Oh and as for the map, I think Islands map that Hunter mentioned would be great.
Sounds good to me. lets put a bit thought and organisation in this one and keep it going

OK couple more rules.
Starting altitude, say 1000 metres,
Fighters fly head on, no head on shots before the merge, after the merge fight's on anything goes.
No chute shooting.
One more category would be Unlimited, you can take any fighter you want THAT FLEW in the war against anyone. That would be the ultimate test of skill, kind of like the last day of Top Gun flyin where you don't know who you could be against. Yes F-14s did go up against WWII Corsairs.

''player skill to make the kill.''
Player skill depends on the aircraft he has under control
I can control the I-153 very well
the J8A and Fiat G42 I cant really fly them well.
it depends on what you want, I want a enemy that has his aircraft under control and is at his best, not a crippled enemy.
Dowly , are you up to make fight reports...just a simple summary of the fight.
nothing fancy. wait..fancy 1 thing...put Mortal Combat sounds in it
FINISH HIM! I will talk to you about this later
@Xabba,
the island map gives both players (north and South) enough time to get above the 1000 meters. one thing about the map thought is I'm wondering the Sea will effect the flight model. if it does I modify a land based map with 2 airbases only North versus South so to speak.
lets say they Meet Head to head, they pass eachother without firing a shot after they passed each other the fight begins.

ps. lets discuss some more things in this thread and then lets see whois up for a Knock-out:rock:

Well, I can be the worlds best with, let's say, the 109, but the I-153 can still out turn it and because IL2 has the climb speeds messed, one cant even outclimb another plane. ;)
And making a kill with I-153 against 109 has very little to do with player skill, it is due to the point that the plane can outturn the other.
EDIT: And yes, I can make a vids out of them, just put in some extra cameras around the map.

@Dowly:
if you get my point there isnt going to be a I-153 versus a 109
thats why the category
its Bi-plane versus Bi-plane;)
its Early war versus Early War;)
and so on and on

Yup, just let's get this started quickly or it will be forgotten.

 if Xabba has anything to add, and he gives it a thumb up I will get started with the map to restrict the airplanes and save them for all categories.
1 thing scoring and knock outs
the ones with the less victories or just lost all fights is out
if there is a draw between 2 players
like both have 1 victory its a ''Sudden death'' between the 2.
the winner continues.
also Crashing is a LOSS for you and a Victory for the enemy
the points are Victories so IE:
Late War category:
Round 1:
HunterICX vs Kratos
Dowly vs Xabba
HunterICX vs Xabba
Dowly vs Kratos
HunterICX vs Dowly
Xabba vs Kratos
lets say I lost 3 fights
means I'm out
Round 2:
Dowly vs Xabba
Dowly vs Kratos
Kratos vs Xabba
Kratos lost 2 fights
kratos is out
Final:
Dowly vs Xabba
Xabba Wins
also I suggest I make a thread for each category at the time
we first start with the bottom Bi-planes
as if I make a thread within all categories its get too messy.

I think jet combat would be really cool (GO-229 vs. YB-80... pure awesomeness).

Thing is the Horten Ho229 (aka GO229)
only the variant IX V2 did 1 test flight in Real life (the IX V1 was a glider version without a engine)
and crashed too after the engines caught fire.
Personally I find this aircraft pretty balanced against the other jets so unless someone has a problem with the aircraft I will allow this aircraft in the Jet Category.
