Yeah.. so I encounter this convoy. I trail it waiting for the right opportunity to ambush it.. weather is perfect.. I get the convoy all lined up... Suddenly, as night falls.. the weather goes FUBAR.
Heavy Rain. THICK FOG... And somehow every destroyer and escort in the convoy managed to see my periscope while I was approaching with silent running. They must have had some damn good watchmen because I couldn't even SEE them through the fog at all.
Anyway... I fired off half of my eels at them as I dived and missed each one.:nope:
They depth charged me and basically pwned me left and right till my sub looked like a crumpled piece of tin foil with a HUGE GAPING HOLE in the side of the crews quarters.
A couple hours later, we were able to surface somehow.. pretty much everything is destroyed except one diesel engine. Batteries are gone... I seriously don't know WHAT's holding that boat together but I'm sure that if one more bolt comes loose, the whole thing will fall into a million pieces.
So...I send a patrol report to BDU and of course.. what do you think they reply ?
Everyone altogether !!!
"KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !":damn:
Do they even READ their Sub Commander's reports ? hehe
I'm imagining that they have a tape reccorder next to the transmitter that says "Keep up the good work" in a loop.

I'm heading for the nearest milk cow (The Bessel at Vigo) for repairs. I'm currently limping through BF17 in stormy weather at about 3 knots at full throttel. The breaking storm seems to be following me (It's followed me since north of Scotland where I encountered that convoy.) I think some crewmember did something to piss God off or something... and when I find out who it is.....:dead:
In the mean time, I've organised my crew to basically hold every wall plate and piece of equipment they can reach with their hands in place until we get to the ship for repairs.

It would be really cool to add some kind of AI to BDU where they can tell how your mission is going and give an appropriate message. Messages ranging from "Keep up the good work :D" to "YOU COMPLETE MORON !!!" or something like.. "You'd better sink more tonnage or I'll put my boot up your.." "You wasted ALL those EXPENSIVE torpedoes !?!" etc..etc..
"Hello ! Zis iz Bernard. I underztand zat you are sinking ? What are you sinking about ?":rotfl:

...Excellent patrol! Keep up the good work!
"KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !"
Yes I got sick of that so I changed it to:
"Message recieved and send to the appropriate departments for analysis, Good Hunting.
BDU."
A little better IMO!:yep:

how in the cornbreaded hell did you change the message???
Just edit the en_menu.txt file found in the data\menu folder, do a search for Keep up the good work and replace it!:yep:

If you use SH3commanders random feature you can have different copies of the file Reece mentions loaded at different start ups
Each with different messages on

What about something like: "Keep up the good work!... unless you've been seriously hit, in which case please reach the closest possible location with firendly repair facilities and fix up your boat... then again, if your sub is really... and I mean REALLY screwed up, like it won't ever sail again, and you fear you might get caught by the tommies, then SCUTTLE! we will remember your bravery Herr Kaleun. If, on the other hand, your sub seems to be sailing along just fine, with some minor damage, and you're thinking about returning home to give that good old crew some rest... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! Re-engage convoy and... BE MORE AGGRESIVE!!!"

I think the BE MORE AGGRESSIVE is just what is needed...

i spend nearly an hour dodgeing destroyers to make my way into new york harbour, sink a liberty cargo, a c2 cargo, and a t3 tanker, spend about half an hour sneaking back out, i report to bdu of my exploits, and all i get is, keep up the good work. they could say something more supportive, like, good job kaptain, what a great succsess, not just the boring old keep up the good work. on that same patrol however, i got a radio message that made sense. after my venture into new york harbour, i made my way south to the carribean, sunk a lone merchant, i ended up using four friggen torpedoes on the thing, first i fired a two torpedo spread, 1 hit, the other was a dud, the first torp wasnt enough to sink her, so i fired another to finish her off. what do ya know, another dud. number four took her down, but four torpedos on a lone merchant did not help my confidence. i was all the way in the carribean, low on fuel, low on torpedos, badly battle scared from my various run in's with destroyers and aircraft, and they radio'd something that made sense. return to base!
good hunting everyone!
