Out to sea once more. My beloved U-46 has been resurrected and is set to sweep the perfidious albion from the oceans :arrgh!:

3 months I've spent weeping in front of this pc trying to run GWX again. 3 months of rolling back drivers and re-installing my graphics card. 3 months of Google searches trying to de-cipher windows error codes. It was a hellish period, so much so that my girlfriend left me ( Ok I dont think that was so much the computers fault as my own but its a very handy excuse. Besides when she see's that I'm a successful kaleun once more she'll be back!! )

23 October to be precise was the last time I actually managed to complete a full patrol.

And the reason?? Because I'm very stubborn and apparently quite stupid :yep:

I had been having irregular problems running GWX on my PC regarding graphics but I put it down to overheating. I was getting black artifacts on the screen and occassional CTD's but lived with it. Then I moved apartment and got a new broadband connection. All of a sudden I wasn't able to run any game on my PC without CTD's and couldn't access any email or downloads from the net. I panicked and assumed some nasty virus was at work in my hard drive. Being an engineer(Civil) and a man I took the next logical step and rather than asking for some advice I decided to completly re-format my hard drive without checking to see if I had any of the neccessary drivers. I ended with a computer more stupid than myself! Eventually I bit the bullet and asked the IT guy at work to look at the problem for me. It took him about 5 mins to download the drivers for me, 2 mins to figure out that my new router wasnt configured properly to access email and another 10 mins to install a spare graphics card. In total less than 20 mins work opposed to my 3 months. God how I hate him!!

End result I'm up and running and what have I found all evening? A frigging Norwegian freighter in 1939

Keep searching Kaleun!! You'll find those Tommies!! I also hate it how you'll be off the English coast and your lookouts scream "SHIP SIGHTED!!!" and you run up to the bridge as excited as can be, ready to plan your attack, only to see a BIG FAT Norwegian freighter, lit up like a friggin Roman candle, sailing by... and I always imagine that the crew is laughing and waving at me. I just wave back at them and shout through the loud-speaker, "WAIT A FEW MORE MONTHS... UNTIL APRIL 1940 BOYS!!!" :ping: :rotfl:

Just think...with a little mod to a cfg file, you can kill that freighter and not be penalized for it...

Glad to see you resolved your problems finally...

We could well be. The much fabled luck of the Irish certainly deserted me in the last 6 months.

In chronological order:

1)My missus left me and took the kids.
2)I had to move out of my home and buy a new car.
3)My new apartment got flooded due to faulty rainwater pipes and the mother of all rainstorms. And I live on the second floor!! Warped all the timber floors, doors and wrecked my stuff.
4)My PC got a lobotomy.
5)I had an altercation with the exceptionally fast opening boot of aforementioned car and knocked out 2 of my front teeth. Still waiting for the implants to take.
6)And then last week got a steel splinter in my eye at work and had a very irate middle eastern doctor taking his revenge for the bombing of his homeland out on me.

With my missing teeth and eyepatch I look like like an escaped psychiatric patient. Mothers cross the street with their children when I approach:arrgh!:

On the plus side nothing else can possibly go wrong... Can it?:hmm:

Geez mate! I bet you need to de-stress yourself blowing ships to hell! There's no better cure to be found Herr Kaleun!
And don't worry about the scars, they just show your experience in battle:rock:

I remember when it all started... I was walking under a ladder one day when all of a sudden this black cat just darted across my path. Luckily I was holding a big mirror at the time and managed to scare it away by smashing the mirror on a passing gypsy woman
