just got a new fast puter.
running vista.
just got sh3 disk through the mail. bought in us.
installed to default folders ok and ran ok.

version on opening screen says "1.4"
just "1.4"
that's out of the box. not patched up by me.

when i tried the 1.4b dvd patch i ran into error msgs.
like: "C:\Program\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\Menu\de_menu.tx t: unknown version"
and on.
so i quit trying.

inserted jsgme into root folder and ran ok.

copied entire silent hunter III folder to newly created "SH3 GWX" ok.
install multiSH3 there and created "GWX" save folder in vista "documents" ok.

but then:

GWX 2.0 didn't want to install into the "MOD" subfolder in the new "SH3 GWX" folder. Wrong version msg.

So i installed GWX straight into the root "Silent Hunter III" folder in the new copy SH GWX.
And it works fine. hmmmm.

Any ideas on whether you've encountered this before or whether you think i'm good to go as is? please let me know.

the "1.4" without the "b" does puzzle me.

thanks to all

GWX is to be installed directly to your Silent Hunter III folder, it cant be used via JSGME.

So i installed GWX straight into the root "Silent Hunter III" folder in the new copy SH GWX.
And it works fine. hmmmm.

This is the right method.

Dowly, can I ask you another question here?

what mods in addition to GWX do the folks here tend to install through jsgme?

or can you direct me to me to a thread where the mods are explained?

or can you list your active jsgme mods?

thanks a lot.

As for the original problem, there is a rumor around that the newest releases of the disc come with the patch installed already. It makes sense that it would only say '1.4' and not '1.4b', especially since the 1.4b patch says '1.3':rotfl:

Sounds like you have it running okay now anyway.:sunny:

no rumor. i took my disk out of the box today and it was indeed 1.4.

and yes, it's up and running.

thanks

If I might make a suggestion, run GWX 2.0 as is for a few patrols to get the feel for all it has to offer, then decide what you might want to change. I have only added some songs to the gramophone, Venatore's Elite crew uniforms, and a sub skin to mine.

Hey mate. I really wouldnt know, I dont play SHIII anymore, so... :p

But like HW3 said, play the stock GWX for a few patrols to get used to it.

Here are a few to get you started. There are a great many mods out there to choose from, and seeing as I have 4 different installs, here is a sample of the 'external' mods I have in 1 of those installs:

SH3 Commander
No RING RING mod by Melendir
Krillerssun
SH3 Moon mod
Sobers 3D waves
Torpedo Damage Final
I also use a host of sub skins, too numerous to mention here.

As a precautionary measure I only install mods that need enabling with JSGME because they are easily disabled if they prove troublesome.
In the rare event I come across a mod that is not, I either make it so or back up the folder it is going into prior to installation. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
