View Full Version : Big problem about GWX 2.0
Hi all,
The problem is very simple to explain: I lost all of my save !
What does it mean ?
What can I do to resolve this problem ?
:(
PS1 : i'm absolutly sure that I had done some save.
PS2: I did a restoration and no change: all of my save are lost.

I lost my ingame save when I updated
I just went back to the last time I was in harborm any chance that is the problem?
When I lost my saves, I check the forum and I find the answer.
Go to yours saves and rename it, or make copy with different name the same save.
example
Lest say you are Erich Bauer, find your folder in .....My documents/SH3
rename is to Gary Bauer or duplicate your save with new name Gary Bauer.
And continue play.
I can't rename anything because i have NOTHING in the save folder !!
And it was the first mission of a new campaign, the first in GWX 2.0, not an old campagn.
NOt sure where your saves went, did you reinstall SH3 before installing GWX?
Its recomended, you start a brand new career with GWX anyway - or at least load up from saves in port.

Did you save whilst submerged :hmm:
This is covered on page 14 of the GWX manual.
"Players who have just one career in stock Silent Hunter III will occasionally find the content of their
save game appears to be empty even though they saved the game successfully, the save game points
are present, and the save game is still present in their saved game folder. This is a stock Silent
Hunter III behavior and seems to happen when you have deleted the career named after your “player
name” and replaced it with a name of your own creation), so the GWX team suggests you create a
“dummy” career (e.g., for Leutnant z. S. Fubar) before starting your real career to ensure this does
not happen.
If this does happen, rename your career by appending an “x” to the name, exit, and restart Silent
Hunter III. Verify if Silent Hunter III can now read the contents of the save game: if so, you can
rename the career back to its original name. If not, you will need to start a new career."

It was an entirely clean installation after a big clean up.
The game worked well because I back and use the save 3 times.
But the 4th time...lost all.
And I was not submergerd.
Maby i must say that I was killed. But the day after, I back and use the last right save to escape and after that I saved the mission.
If not, you will need to start a new career."
Excellent !!
And I restart how many time like that ?
Thanks for the search but it seems that is not absolutly sure game. It's really too bad losing all because that means many hours for nothing.
It's very sad due the fantastic job of the team but i'm back in the preview version of GWX witch never gives me this problem.

If all the files in the save directory are gone it's more likelly a problem with the OS, all the save problems I heard of in two and a half years of playing and modding the game where with some corrupted data, never loosing the content of the entire save game folder.
To clarify things about the GWX mod, all the changes we made are in the data files, so we haven't altered any save, load or other types of routines, which can only be made by the developers which has the source code, so your problem was pure bad luck, it could have happened with GW 1.0, GWX 1.0 or the vanilla game.
Ref
OK.
I have no luck since a few day.
But if i must have some luck to play SH3 quietly, i prefer play an other soft.
Thank you all to answer.

Sorry, doesn't it say somewhere that old careers are not compatible with GWX2.0? And that that's why you need to remove your "careers" folder from "My Documents"?

The SH3 folder in MyDocs should be deleted before any installation of GWX is attempted :yep:
