Everyone must have had TC mishaps (or you will if you hadn't yet). Cant' really start a patrol until you pass Midway so I TC like crazy to get there, top off, and head west. I set way points from leaving Pearl to just outside Midway's harbor.
I guess when you hit 4 digits for TCing, your PC's response time may be a little inconsistent. I watched the cruise through the map mode and planned to hit F11 once I got close to the harbor. When I did, nothing happened for a few seconds and all of a suddent I hear this horrible sound of grinding metal and my crew hollering out all the damage! Even though my last way point was out in the harbor I must have been moving so fast that the modeled momentum just kept me going and put my whole boat ON TOP of the docks!
Yeah, boys, refit that! :damn:

Momentum killed ya my friend. Even when you stop in real time the sub keeps going. When I TC as high as 4-digits I look out for the last waypoint and start to slow down to 3 or 2 digits. Watch out where you place your waypoints.

It's also detrimental if you're on patrol and you run into a plane or surface contact that somehow was not picked up by sensors. By the time the computer loads all of the files that it needs, TC already has you taking damage or dead. I can usually tell that something is coming my way, because I'll run TC around 128X and will notice a slight pause.
Also you have to watch those little obsticals in the middle of the ocean called islands.
If you don't preview your route before you hit TC ... them islands don't move for ya.

More than once I've ended a patrol with my boat sitting on a beach somewhere. I just assume that someone spotted a pack of sunbathing nurses and moved to intercept.

Wasn't the game supposed to slow down when getting near land? SH3 did that.... it doesn't seem to work on SH4 :-?
Anyway, never, ever, EVER TC too high, or else a an enemy plane will creep up on you and blow you to bits. :dead:

Actually it does. On one patrol the star icon denoting the objective was, unbeknownst to me, covering a small island. Oblivious, I set a waypoint that went across the island.
Later on as I approached the island TC dropped to 8x. I was curious why - no contacts, aerial or surface, were reported by the crew. So I repeatedly hit the '+' key but the game would drop me down to 8x. So picture me repeatedly hitting the Numpad + key until I decided to take a view from the bridge. That was when I saw the island. Full emergency back didn't stop me from going up the beach.

Excact same thing happende to me :D
Heres a good way to slow down TC fast: Hit Backspace! It will pause the game.
This will bypass to process going through the different TC levels.
Actually, I never run TC over 256.
I've never experienced the TC to drop when near land. It will drop when near targets or other activities that require 1:1 time factor.
My experience has been that if I attempt to go to the bridge while at 2000x or higher I'll get a CTD also.
